Traded up to a 2006 Disco 39S

I sold my 98D 36T and bought a 2006 Discovery 39S. Still figuring out the new systems, and have tons of questions. The dealer was trying to explain the differences in the roof material from my old unit. What can any owners tell me about roof care for this model? Do you not have to coat these roofs? Every few years I would have to cover my old coach roof with Liquid Roof. What is different about the 06 39S?

My discovery 39l has a TPO roof the roof is thermoplastic something much easier to maintain then the whole rubber roofs. I wash mine with a mild dishwashing detergent once a year sometimes twice it is 13 years old and still in good shape. I prefer fiberglass then TPO and never rubber. I live approximately 80 miles south of Dallas gets really hot and pretty humid here.. D Johnson

It has a Royal Tuff-Ply roof. The material is TPO and should easily last 20+ years, doesn't chalk, and is much easier to clean than the EPDM rubber you had before. You still have to maintain (caulk) any seams and openings, but the membrane itself is superior to EPDM in most every way. Just wash it with detergent and bleach.

About the only drawback to TPO is that it can still get torn by a tree branch. Fiberglass is superior in that regard.

Personally, I consider TPO to be superior even to fiberglass and way superior to rubber. Although it can tear with a tree branch or something it is much easier to repair than fiberglass and it is less prone to stress cracking. Itís like the old argument between copper and PEX plumbing. Copper is the traditional gold standard and its elegant when done well but PEX is an inherently better product.
