transmission boil over

I was on a trip when I stopped to check the over heat of my temp gauge, when I went to the back of my Le and found the transmission fluid coming out of the dip stick like a boiling over kettle, It seam that I did not hear the fans running any help would be great. Also found my radiator was down a couple gal's too. Is there any way of checking the electrical fans.

Side or rear radiator?

Transmission overheating is usually well after engine overheat because the torque converter is locked except in very slow conditions (1st or lower RPM in 2nd).

Were you in 1st or 2nd gear when this happened?

Welcome to iRV2

Coolant low a couple of gallons is scary , have you checked the cooling system to find your leak ?

How much trans fluid did you need to add ?
What does the trans fluid color look like ?
Have you checked trans for fault codes ?

Is your coach on a Freightliner or Spartan chassis ?
Side radiator or rear radiator ?

I doubt that the engine cooling system has only electric fans , but need more info about the chassis to be of any real help .

EDIT: I see Brett , posted similar questions while I was typing , please add more info about your coach and chassis so we can provide better answers .

Have a mobil tech come out and change the oil to get all of transmission fluid out of the internal parts of your engine. Have it towed to the nearest transmission repair DO NOT DRIVE. The transmission cooler has failed and is pumping transmission fluid into the engine. I am replacing my transmission because of the same failure. In my case, the transmission cooling was part of the radiator. It failed and filled my transmission with antifreeze.
It looks like it would be a great idea to replace the transmission cooling radiator every 15 years because there is no way to test for this failure. $150 radiator part replacement vs $5000 transmission job is a no brainer I my opinion.

Bruce,

Where do engine oil and transmission fluid come into contact?

Either and coolant, I understand.

I’m guessing you have a Spartan liberty chassis with a cat C-9 and a side radiator. The engine must have been really cooking to do that.

Did you find the cause of the problem?
Doesn’t it have a hydraulic fan?

If its a pusher and the radiator is in the very rear, could be clogged from crankcase (breather) vapors (and dirt).

So, side radiator???

And were the "cooling package" blocked, it would still way overheat the engine before affecting the transmission.
