American Coach: TV Mounting in 2001 American Dream - Ideas?

I bought a 2001 DRS37 American Dream, and have been fixing things up to get ready for the summer. One thing I need to address is the front TV is missing. I am going to replace it with a 32" tv, but am looking for ideas on how to mount it where the original TV was.

Has anyone came up with a way to mount a TV in an American Dream, that they were particularly pleased, with how it worked out? If yes, would you please share it.

I just eliminated that mounting point entirely, got a better view and never hit my head any more. I have a single TV I can move wherever I like including outside and have reached inner peace.

Your 2001 has the tv on the riser (from the floor) rather than overhead, right? A buddy who had a 2000 Dream removed the entire riser assembly and basically set the big tv (32"?) on the dashboard when parked. For travel, they just laid it on the bed in the back. They didn't move often, so connect/disconnect was not an issue (but not a big chore anyway).

Gary, No. The TV opening is overhead. Of course, the space where the original TV was, is made for a tube tv. So plenty of room behind. But I am thinking of mounting a 32" flat on the outside face of the existing tv opening.

I've measured, and a 32" will fit very nicely. But before I do so, I was curious if anyone else had come up with a clever design.

Ok, ours is not an American Dream, but very similar situation. I removed the tube tv, added an articulated swing mount to the side of the tv box and mounted a 32" tv outside of the tv enclosure. It lays flat against the enclosure, yet swings to pleasurable viewing angles and secures for travel with one bungee cord. Also added a small sound bar and subwoofer behind the tv. Cheap and easy.

Thanks. This gives me an idea of how I could mount a tv with one of the articulating arm style mounts, so it can stow in front of the current tv opening, but then move if needed for better viewing angle.

Not an American Dream and a bit smaller TV but this is what I did. First cover the hole with a cabinet door that folds down. (a sliding bolt locks the cabinet when closed) Mount two aluminum bars on hinges at the top of the cabinet and attach the TV to the bars. When the cabinet is open the TV folds open and is both closer and at a better viewing angle than if it was mounted higher. Used Velcro to ensure the TV does not bounce around when moving. Creates a nice useable space behind the TV for a DVD player or... Cables are routed through a hole in the cabinet behind the TV so are invisible with everything closed up.

Again, a great idea. I like the concept that this method lowers the tv for a better viewing angle. Thank you for sharing.

Has anyone mounted one of the newer, small projector tv's to the ceiling, and projected onto a foldable screen? I'm just pondering if this is feasible.

Ours is overhead as well and here is what I did. I removed the frame going around the old CRT and took it down to Lowes and cut a piece of spruce the same dimension.

Then I stained it and mounted my TV mount for my 24in LED on new board. I then put it in place of the old frame. Once up I put the old frame around the new spruce to accent it then hung the TV on the mount.

Done.

Wow. That's an impressive little projector. And I was hoping for one with smart tv capability, just like this one. However, did you look at the reviews? There are a lot of negative comments. Overall of only 3 stars.

1st gen stuff. I would have passed myself just for the cost of 800. But hopefully the 2nd gen will be better and lower cost.

I have a Fleetwood Excursion but my original TV was a tube type mounted overhead similar to yours. My solution was to remove the front frame, temporarily, and cut a piece of plywood to fit the rectangular hole about 6 inches deep, behind the frame. I then screwed pieces of 1"X2" to the sides, top and bottom about 6.5" back. I drilled holes in the plywood to match the holes on the back of my 32" HDTV, then covered the plywood with some black cloth that I picked up at Walmart. I then routed the HDMI cable through another hole that I drilled, and then mounted the HDTV to the black plywood. I then stuck the plywood up into the old TV cavity and put a few black self-tapping screws through the plywood into the 1"X2" pieces I mounted previously. Re-attached the front frame and it looks like it came from the factory with a 32" HDTV!!!

I have a 07 Bounder. I changed the heavy non digital for a 32”. I used some 2X4s and a articulating mount. I also added a sound bar. I can position the tv for the best viewing angle. It works good if we stop and can’t open the slides
