Urgent.

2005 Southwind/Workhorse/8.1. I can't get the stinkin' oil dip stick back in the engine. It stops about 12" from all the way in and hits something. Won't go further. I'd like to leave in the morning but not going anywhere until the dip stick is in. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello again Steve,

Has the dipstick always been this way?
If you keep twisting the dipstick, will it eventually go in?
Is it the original dipstick?
Have you checked the dipstick end for any aberrations?
If negative to the above, sounds like you are hitting the juncture where the tube joins the engine block therefore the tube may have to come off to check what's constricting the tube or block.

This is usually fixed by rotating the stick 90 degrees, then re-insert. This is very common with log dipsticks, depending on the amount of bends and angles in the tube.

If I was experiencing this problem, I would put a slight bend in the end of the dipstick, then as it hit the obstruction I would rotate it with the hopes that it would pass by the obstruction. Just my HO.

Just bought the MH on 4/9. Mechanic had trouble getting it back in when going over the unit with me. I checked oil before first trip out and had trouble getting it back in but not like this. Right now I am SO

FINALLY! BACK IN. I had to really push on it to get it in. I has some unreal resistance at the engine end. I crawled underneath and see the tube has bends it didn't come with. So. This engine has been worked on or replaced and the tube not reinstalled properly. Oh, goody. Something else to correct.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Glad I/we can count on this forum membership to be helpful when I/we need help/info.

Update. Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner. To much fun RV'ing. I had to remove the dipstick tube and remove a kink that obviously happened during tube re installation. Now to figure out WHY the tube was removed in the first place. Oil pan must have been off? Engine runs fine and I've had no problems with the unit. So, I guess, just keep on truckin'.
