URGENT Help Discovery Front Axle Oil Seals
Hi fellow members, wasn't sure whether to post in this or the Freightliner forum so here goes.
We are a British couple who back in Oct 2007 visited the USA and purchased our 2005 Fleetwood Discovery 39S as well as a toad in which we then proceeded to tour the US & Canada for nearly two years before we shipped both RV & toad back to the UK.
We still own and full time in the Discovery touring not only the UK but also Europe, mostly Spain.
Our RV has now travelled just over 27,000 miles.
We recently returned back to the UK from Spain to get both our RV and car MOT'd.
( In the UK most vehicles over 3 years of age annually have to be inspected) and are booked on a return ferry on Sept 29th
Prior to booking our RV in for it's MOT my son a mechanic was going to adjust the brakes, however on crawling beneath the front he immediately noticed leaking from BOTH inner axle oil seals.
I am trying to obtain a part number for the oil seals fitted to the Freightliner XC chassis in order to visit a local oil seal dealer with a part number otherwise my son will have to remove the hub and old oil seal and take this to the dealer to try and match it.
A recent Google search for this information brought me to the iRV2 forum in particular a thread dated 05.28.2013 titled ' Leaking Front Axle Seal' but all the postings only gave costs of parts and fitting.
I am also a member of the Discovery Owners Association where I have made a similar plea for help.
Thanks for reading this post and any information you can give me would be very appreciated.
Mick

Good Morning Mick!
I replaced the oil seals on my 2006 discovery last year for $75 and I would assume the part number is the same. Here is a picture of the seal box showing the number. I have many more pictures showing the process of replacing them if you need them. Just let me know friend.
By the way Mick, I do not see your request for help in the Discovery Owners Association (DOAI).

Hi Bigd9, wow what a fantastic reply speed, I know the time difference between the UK and West or East USA causes 8 or 5 hour difference.
I have take an iphone picture of you picture and will send it to my son so many thanks.
Just visited the DOAI forum and my appeal is on the bulletin board in the Freightliner Chassis heading, had 3 readings NO replies but hey yours may do the trick, even if the UK seal dealer doesn't stock that make they may be able to locate a compatible one?

You are absolutely correct Mick. Somehow the settings on my Discovery Forum page got changed to show only "Campground and Travel" instead of "All Categories You Have Access To" section. Looks like I missed a lot of stuff going on. I was wondering why if was so quiet!!!!! Thanks for the heads up.
BTW, I got those two seals from Freightliner, but I would suspect any good parts company could match them up.

This spring I had to replace a leaking front inner seal on my 2005 D. It was part number 35066, which here in the US is manufactured by 6 different companies under different brand names.
and if the inner bearing is damaged, it is number HM212049

Hi MicknPat,
If you contact Freightliner directly with the last 5 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your motorhome, they can tell you exactly what parts were used in the construction of your chassis. Good luck and happy trails in your travels.

To make it easier for you to get part numbers, I would sign up for Access Freightliner. That will get you access to the part numbers, and parts diagrams would would make life easier for you, and there are no charges or fees to use it. It is also VIN specific for the b=parts listing. www.AccessFreightliner.com

Actually, Easier to just call Freightliner & give them the last 6 of your VIN number. They will get you the proper part numbers. Also, if the brake shoes got contaminated you should also replace.
Getting access to Access Freightliner is a real P.I.T.A. if you have a used coach, you will have to fill out some paperwork to get access to the site, your VIN is most likely still "linked" to the original owner.

Had a quick look at joining but the drop down options don't appear to allow anywhere other than USA, Canada or Mexico Obviously NO Freightliner based vehicles are sold, taken or used only in those countries.

Hoping the linings aren't to contaminated, time is the biggest problem, we are booked on a ferry UK to Spain on 29th Sept.

Mick, my brake linings were very very contaminated, but several aerosol cans of brake cleaner and they were good as new. Contrary to many who thought I should have replaced the shoes, I chose not to. Now 18,000 miles later in all sorts of driving I'm glad I didn't spend the money and time to replace them. The material the shoes are made from is dense and hard and I didn't see any oil absorbed in them at all.
This is just my opinion and everyone needs to make their own decisions.

Pete, my mechanic son who works on all types of trucks and plant machinery says if contaminated with oil he will burn the linings to clean them?
