Wall damage behind Microwave

The microwave/convection oven on our 2017 Pace Arrow 36U stopped working. When the new microwave/convection arrived, I removed the old unit. To my surprise the wall behind the unit was damaged. The wall covering was melted and charred and the wood backing was blackened. There was no apparent damage to the back of the microwave. I've notified REV group of the issue. Has anyone else had this problem?

Insurance claim should be next. Then report a defect to recalls.gov

If that is where the microwave exhaust exits, you need to add a piece of aluminum there. 1/16" tread plate / diamond plate will do, and not mount the new unit so close to the wall. Looks like it needs room to breathe.

No marks at all on the micro? Are you original owner?

After rethinking the picture, it might be the air exhaust for the microwave was not oriented properly. It might have been blowing hot air against the wall instead of the front exhaust vents.
