Water heater issue

Hi,

My water heater doesn’t work on the electric side but if I use the propane it works just fine. Anyone have any ideas as to what would cause that problem? I have checked the breaker flipped it off and on and that didn’t help. The LCD panel shows green that it’s enabled.

You will need to use a multimeter to check the various components of the electrical system at the water heater to determine which one is causing the problem. Could be a switch, the heating element, temperature sensor, broken wire, etc. Will take a bit of time to search each one out to find the culprit.
There are you tube videos showing the process.

Yes, this is what you need to do^^.


Post the brand and model of your heater as well, that will help narrow down problem areas and pinpoint their location.


Start by measuring voltage at the element, that will head you in the right direction for more trouble shooting, if necessary. If there is 120 vac at the element, you know all components up to that point are good. You then just need to test the resistance of the element.


If no 120vac at the element, you need to back track the circuit, the details of which will be determined by the brand of heater you have.
