Water leak under the kitchen sink? Check the filter connections

This may only apply to the ’02 39r, or every MH that went down the assembly line for a period of time. There is a tee in the water pipe which supplies water to the kitchen sink. A filter for the drinking water and the ice maker is also attached. I replaced my filter this year, not the first time. I sent my son to the store to get me one and he returned with a beautiful inline filter with Sharkbite connections at either end. Rather than send him back for an exact match, I decided to make this the new normal. I removed the upper connection which has a short 5/8” tube to a tee in the cold water line. I added a 1/8” shutoff valve to the mix. I had to take the Bounder connection apart and now could not get it to fit back in.

The problem here is that the original installer did not have the correct fittings. He stuffed a rubber washer in the connecter and wrapped the adaptor with Teflon tape. This type of connection should never need teflon tape. The best I could do, without tape, was about half a turn.

I neatly cut the connector off and went to the local plumbing store (wholesale where the plumbers go) and handed them the parts and asked for a Sharkbite adaptor. I was out the door in about ten minutes. Additionally, I used a large dryer exhaust hose clamp to attach the filter to the ABS sink drain and added a small loop of the 1/8” hose top and bottom so there would be no strain.

I didn’t have a leak when I began, but, it could have been a disaster with high pressure city water.
Do it right the first time so I don’t have to fix it.

What ever it takes to get them out the door and work until the warranty expires.
