What do the simple folk do?

We’re on a 1700 mile trip and I’ve been counting Class A’s as they go by in the oncoming lanes. We were startled to notice that at least two thirds of us travel without dinghys/toads.
How do they do shopping, sightseeing, visiting, restauranting, etc. without transportation? Really, we don’t get it.
My experience is that I’m terrified driving this 9 1/2 foot wide building down any road, much less doing errands. Really: how do they do it?

When we had the 30 ft Class C we drove it everywhere and didn't hesitate to use it for sight-seeing.
Many/most places you would go to as a tourist have buses that will take people. If a bus can make it than I suspect most Class A's would also. I think it comes down to comfort level.
I plan to have a toad but I really love having my MH when I'm at tourist spots so I'll miss that to be honest.

When we went “Toadless” we would stop along the way to do any shopping we needed to do. Many people don’t feel the need to go to restaurants as they brought food with them. Many campgrounds offer transportation to shopping areas and entertainment venues. Many folks “camp” at Casinos.

Sometimes we would rent a car, sometimes call a taxi ( long before Uber ). However we now tow or drive a car everywhere we go. What made us decide having a toad a good idea was a breakdown.

Most RVers are heading to a local RV park for the weekend. They don't need a toad to sit around drinking for the weekend.

If they need a car, its probably following behind with the kids in it.

twinboat is probably right. Or they are taking it to get fixed. There are a few that don't tow a car or truck but not many if they are glamping.

No Toad

We rented a car at our final destination. Along the way, we either rode the electric assist bicycles or walked.

We keep a car in the place we go to frequently (where two adult kids live), and rent or Uber otherwise. So much easier with a gasser to not have a toad at fuel stops.

When we go to Florida for snowbird season we tow because we’ll be parked one place for a couple of weeks. When we went cross country we did not. Many places had shuttles from campgrounds or we did Uber or car rental for a couple of days. Depends on what we wanted to see. Drove all thru Yellowstone in mh with no problem parking but that was in sept when only us old folks were there. Stayed in a campground in Newport,Oregon that had a shuttle that ran all around the town that was great. You kinda have to decide if you are going to use campground as a base and then tour area or get places close in to a destination and use public transportation. Also depends how many people you have touring with you. If only two, that’s pretty easy. Family with kids different needs and wants to keep the group happy. Safe travels!!

We are around 50/50 with and without a toad.

Longer trips and longer stays, the Ranger follows along.

Shorter trips and cycling destinations, it's just the cycles hanging out back.

Happy Glamping.

11+ years with our Class A.

Never towed.

Most grocery store parking lots have plenty of space to park the rig to re-provision.

Bicycles most of the time.

Uber or Enterprise RAC if we are in a location where car travel is a must.

Just call ahead. https://turo.com/ Lot of the younger generation use this service to explore areas while enjoying "Van Life" traveling. Great cars, insured and available everywhere you want to go.Much better than your standard rent a car agency.

"9 1/2 foot wide building"? Are you paying for permits every time you travel?

Seems to me it depends on where you go and what you will be doing. And maybe whether you are willing to break camp every time you want to visit somewhere else. Some places may have rental cars or Uber handy; others not. Some people want to hang out at the campsite; others may be anxious to sight-see, shop or eat out. Some are just there for a couple days; others stay weeks or months.

We mostly towed, but would go without if we knew we would mostly hang out (e.g. a group rally) or that other transport was readily available (friends, shuttle bus, etc).
