What is this for?

No clue here. Its located in the overhead, just left of the front TV, so basically right above the driver.

It appears to be something to do with your sat antenna.

If you have a Sony tv it could be a connector for external Sony devices.

You probably have a KVH satellite antenna. The on/off switch turns the sat antenna on; the serial connector is for satellite techs to hook up a laptop with installed KVH software to setup/troubleshoot the system.

Is the cable coming from the bottom of the switch a coax? If so, it's probably the antenna feed to the "Sat In" connector on your satellite receiver.

Yea, I have one of those in-motion satellite deals, however we dont have a satellite receiver, so guess that is why it was foreign to me.

Thanks y'all.

I just bought a satellite receiver from Dish, but haven't got it working yet. I have an older model KVH dome on top. My antenna control box has two switches; one turns it on/off, the other is spring-loaded and you push it to make the antenna search for satellites. Want a different satellite? Push it again. Wish I had the more modern system you have.

BTW -- I bought the VIP 211K receiver for less than $100, including shipping. I don't know yet whether my antenna is any good. It grunts and growls when turned on or when I hit the Sat Search switch, but I haven't got a connection yet. Still researching.

I keep meaning to buy a receiver, we just don't watch a lot of TV. Was thinking maybe Ebay or Craigslist for an older one, then just buy the 1 moth service when we need it through Dish, but doubt we would use it much if any at all.

The KVH satellite comes configured for DirecTV but can be programmed for Dish Network. I didn't have a service center nearby but was able to program mine with a serial cable, laptop, and hyper terminal.

OMG stay away from that!

KVH TracVision satellite on/off switch with connections on the other side for upgrading the main and RF board via hex flash.

I left mine on the wall after I had the top system removed and replaced with a Travler (Dish SK-1000)......and now I'm happy.

One of the easiest "What is this for" I've even seen

KVH makes rooftop (And portable) Sat Antennas, I will guess you have a DOME.

The switch turns it on and off and the DB-9 Connector is for a computer to programm it.. Of course you need the right softare and interface hardware (KVH can provide .. Likely for a fee).
