Where to install a safe in my Discovery

We are looking to install a safe in our MH but not sure where I can bolt it down and not worry about hitting something. Anyone find a good place in their Discovery’s to do this?

On my previous mh, the safe was in the floor, under the passenger's seat

Not a MH but I mounted mine to the floor in the closet. Out of site, out of mind goes a long way.

There are not many places in a motorhome that you can mount a safe that someone with an axe, or more likely someone with a hand held battery powered saw could not remove it in under a minute. You may be better off with a secret hiding place, perhaps a false bottom in a cabinet, etc.

I also thought about installing a safe in our Discovery. About the only place one could be installed was under the bed. I didn't like that location so instead I just placed a portable fire safe behind the bedroom TV. It's out of sight. If a thief has enough time to discover the TV pulls away from the wall, he has enough time to remove a fixed safe located anywhere in the rig.

I placed a safe in the bed frame in my old MH but have decided not to even put one in this DP as i no longer carry large sums of currency.

Important documents are kept in a safety deposit box which the kids are authorized access too.

We travel with a checkbook, 2 Credit Cards, a preloaded WalMart care, a Discount EFS card w/o limit and about $500.00 in cash for incidentals. If more money is needed while on the road I use the military Exchange system or once I went to a local bank showing them my online bank account info and they cashed my check.

If you decide you must have a safe in unit you may want to check out the safes available for carrying a secured weapon which has a thick cable. I had one in my old toad mounted to the seat bracket and sat under the seat but could be pulled out for easy access. Sold it with the toad.

This may give you some additional information in deciding whether you even need a save in the MH or not.

Drive safe - Richard
