Generators 20Kw vs 12.5Kw
What was changed that caused Foretravel to put a smaller generator in? What are the ramifications of that change? Were there problems with the 20Kw?

I believe it was the government’s requirement to add def to the generator for the 20 kw. Manufacturers instead went with the 12.5kw

I suspect the change was cost-driven. I have a new Prevost with the 20 KW PowerTech (which does not use DEF) - great generator, definitely an upgrade from the 12.5 KW Onan.

I was wondering how they wired it to make use of that 20Kw since it's more than 50 amp?

The coach is wired for 80 amp service. When on generator you can pull up to 80 amps. When on shore power you only have 50 amp service so if you try to run everything on shore power the electronic controls will shed some of the load. I believe if you try to pull more then 45 amps it starts sheading load.

Aha, i wondered if they did something like that.
I'm interested in a Foretravel and am doing some research. I would get a used one and trying to see the differences in the 2015 model up to the 2022. The generator is a big factor with 4 A/C units and all of the accompaniments. The ISX engine with the newer valves is of interest as well as a bunch of the other features. It befuddles me seeing two sinks in the rear bath, I can deal with it but see it as absurd.

Is it capable of using 80 amps of shore power? Some places I go have the capacity. The transfer switch is listed at 90 amps. It looks like the 2014 was the last year for the big generator.
Will be stopping in Nacogdoches and Alvarado in a couple of weeks.
