Smooooother ride
Hello all, I am requesting info for my 18 travel ride IH 45.
What pressure do you set front rear and tag tire pressure set at? And what pressure do you have you air bags set at ?
I have had the coach weighed axle by axle, I have my steer set at 100 psi on the steer and 85 psi on the rear and tag. I will be checking tomorrow on the HWH system for bag pressure, it just doesn’t seem as smooth as it should be.
Thanks in advance

Your best bet is to call Foretravel and ask.

I did call and ask foretravel, wasn’t able to get anyone that could help, it seems that when they changed to not building the chassis and started purchasing from spartan most of the employees that had that knowledge have retired or moved on. I will reach out to Tyle and see if he can assist.

Define smooth. Are you referring to normal travel or the response to road impacts?
You have the recommended tire pressures from the placard. Lowering tire pressure from there to reduce impact harshness is not a good plan. The pressure in the air bag is based on physics. Overall, the pressure is function of the size, (diameter) of the bag and the weight is it supporting. The height control claves add or remove air to get to the set height, but the pressure will remain the same.
Response to impacts is a function of that pressure and overall volume available for the air to compress. Then there are the shocks that dampen the motion. They are usually the first item to look at for defects and often upgrade options. For the sir volume part this is why "ping tanks" are sometime added. These need to be carefully sized as too much volume available can result in too much axle movement and the suspension bottoming out.
BTW As I have been shopping, I believe the 2018 on Spartan Chassis is not an IH45, it is a Realm.

Thanks Dennis, in my case when I ordered the coach I was given the option of using the last travel ride chassis that foretravel had or go with the newer spartan chassis. Because I had has several spartan chassis and had many issues with spartan on a cornerstone I elected to use the travel ride.
And yes the coach rides very good on a good road, just not many good roads anymore.
The reason I asked was while at foretravel I discussed the ride I was told to get each axle weighed and adjust tire pressure and I did. Also while at the factory a tech came out and test drove the coach and stated it road a little harsh, he then went on the HWH control on the dash and adjusted the pressure down.
While driving back to Houston I realized it probably dint help and wanted to change it back, unfortunately I was busy doing other things and time has flown by and the rest is history .

I have an 08 Nimbus and I have the same complaint. Mine has the solid beam 4 air bag front suspension.
Do you have the 20K front axle with the 365/70-22.5 tires? You got the best stuff out there. I would suggest looking at upgrading the shocks and adding ping tanks.

Yes I have the 20k axle and 365s. Do you have a brand shock you would recommend? I don’t remember what foretravel put on,I am chasing down an air leak so I can look when I get to the front end.

Ahall's issue is that his 2018 IH45 is on a Foretravel chassis. In 2019 Foretravel switched completely to Spartan and let longtime Foretravel chassis experts (e.g. Wayne Musser) go. So there's apparently no one at Foretravel that can (or is willing to) answer Foretravel chassis questions any longer.

I believe the current preference for shocks is the Koni's, I think FS series. Reach out to Foretravel. If you are a Motorcade member you get tech support and discount pricing on parts. Do you also have the "Active Air"? HWH us no longer providing this as an aftermarket upgrade. I would try the shocks first and ten consider adding ping tanks. You will need to find someone to provide the details to make that happen.

I am still finding support available even for my 08 Nimbus. However, it seems that beyond upgraded shocks and repair parts there is no longer support for chassis upgrades including HWH Active Air.

ih-45 Tire Pressures
Ahall,
This is Spartan info on our 2019 ih-45. Note recommended tire pressures are for max weight but most of us I believe are close to those max weights.
Steer 125psi
Rear 85 psi
Tag 105 psi.
Best wishes,
Jim O'Mahony

HAs anywhere had their IH-45 weighted. In a way it is disappointing that the drive axle isn't a higher capacity and carrying more of the load even just for traction.

Yes I have koni shocks not sure about which model, and yes I do have active air from HWH.
As mentioned in earlier post I did have my coach weighed at each axle and determined what tire pressure should be, I will try to find the paperwork and post it.
I am still looking for air leaks but with record snow in Houston just not in the mood to lay on the concrete.

I think 100 on the steer tires is too low and borderline unsafe for that coach. With that said it all comes down to axel weight, total weight of coach. If you weighed the coach then you would know that 100 is too low. I could be wrong but I don’t think so.
You can look at the tire manufacturers website and it will tell you exactly what air pressure. It has nothing to do with Foretravel.
