The brakes on my unit seem to pulsate under med to hard braking, and fade,, new pads , the old pads were all cracked, rotors and smooth , I am guessing they are overheating, should I be looking at better quality rotor, when replaced, unit has 71000km no history on past repairs
thanks

Were the rotors turned on a lathe? They may look smooth but could be warped from heat. If the pulse is in time with wheel rotation, I'd say a warped rotor, if much quicker, it could be ABS. If you have ABS, check that all the sensors at the wheel are present and not melted, it happens when brakes overheat.

I'd check and see if they have enough metal left to turn them. Minimum specs should be on the rotor and a micrometer will tell you if they have thickness to be turned. I don't think better rotors are the issue, using brakes properly are.

Observe folks driving down hills, you'll see many keeping light pressure on the brakes to keep speed in control. On a large vehicle (actually any size) that will generate lots of heat. The better action is to downshift to a lower gear. Use the brakes firmly to drop speed by 10 mph then remove foot from the pedal until the next 10 mph reduction is needed.

If the rotors get very hot, then parked, the rotors can warp because the area under the caliper will cool slower than the rest of the rotor and the uneven temperatures can cause warping.

good advice, I will keep that in mind, and have the rotors checked to see if they can be turned. I will correct my braking methods
thanks
