Anyone have a 8383 Independence?

Looking at a 2010 model. Its a 4 slide 38' on a Ford chassis. Looks like a nice coach, but concerned about the weight. The weight sticker states 6900 lbs carrying capacity. It has a 17500lb rear axle, 9000lb front axle. Does this mean its a 26000 lb chassis rating? The documentation on the website states its a 22000 lb chassis. So far the dealer and Gulfstream haven't been able to answer my question.

The Ford F53 does come in 24K and 26K ratings. I would suspect that the coach you are looking at could in fact be a 26,000 GVWR rated Ford Super Duty F53 chassis. Please get them to tell you or look for the GVWR. That should be listed on your VIN# plate.

The data tags are usually in the kitchen cabinet over the sink.

We looked all over the coach and the only thing found was a small tag behind the drivers' seat that list the carrying weight and the front and rear axle ratings. I tend to believe its a 26K chassis, just concerned that the documentation on the web site says 22K. I was curious what the empty weight of the coach was, guess I can do the math. If the carrying capacity was 6900 lbs minus the 26000 = 19100 empty. I believe the total that can be carried + towed = 30000 lbs.

Just a suggestion..I purchased a GS model 8295...3 slides on the F53 chassis.......Totally unloaded, just after purchase, half fuel and all other tanks empty, it was right at gross on the front axel......7000 lbs is the max GAWR (front) and it was right at 7000 lbs.....The rear was under by quite a bit......So, right from the factory it is overloaded and dangerous.......Calls of course to GS all go unreturned (it was a used MH but I just wanted to get some insight...)..Anything I add in front of the rear tires will oveload the front.....

So I would get the thing weighed empty and see where you stand.....I would never rely on GS or the dealer....

Just MHO....
