Question Anyone know the Battery BCI Group Size for 1995 Spartan EC-2000 series?

It is a BCI Group Size 31 at 950cca? This is what Interstate Battery here in town is saying but I'm curious what Spartan has spec'd.

I just found out the last owner put in 2 Marine/RV deep cycle batteries (in parallel) for the Chassis / engine starting batteries (only 650cca each) and totally wrong type. I though engine start was a little sluggish.

Interstate wants to put in 31-MHD (31 series) 950cca @$152.00, Costco doesn't sell a group 31 battery in that type, they have Group 65 850cca at $92.99

You could check with Spartan with your VIN to see if they have a recommendation. I'd go for the largest CCA available for the space in the battery trays. My '98 has two 6v batteries in series to make 12v and always have provided enough power to start the engine.

That's what it had when I bought it and as I said, never had any starting issues. Two 6v batteries in series give the same voltage as 12v batteries. I don't remember the CCA, but they are big 6v batteries.

Today, I emailed Spartan and asked if they supplied the Chassis/Starting batteries or the Coach Builder. If Spartan, what type and CCA rating is required by Spartan.

Here is their reply:

Did Spartan supply the Chassis/Starting Batteries with the EC-2242 or did the Coach Builder add those.Spartan supplied
I would like to know the battery requirements for the Chassis/Starting batteries, type and CCA Group 31 batteries and a minimum 950 CCA

In our Coach, the last owner just shopped at Costco and put in 2 deep cycle 650 cca, Costco doesn't sell commercial batteries. I will be replacing and deciding on brand.

I posted a thread about Duracell here but no replies yet:
