Freedom 10 not charging batteries when plugged into shore power
Plugged into shore power and by morning the batteries were dead (Freedom 10 inverter did automatic shut down). Was in the 20s and the furnace was running throughout the night along with the fridge.
I have a 37' 99 Gulfstream Sun Voyager Bus with a Freedom 10 inverter/charger. I should note that the coach came with 2 house and 2 chassis batteries and we expanded the house batteries 4 by adding 2 more batteries (all the same brand and age) group 31 100 amp deep cycle batteries.
The batteries charge fine with the alternator when we are driving down the road, but not on shore power or generator. Just noticed that when I switched the battery disconnect off and back on, that the investor hummed and the batteries were charging for a second before the hum shut down. I tapped/slapped the inverter charger switched back on for a moment and then shut down. (The batteries were at 12.4 volts when they started to charge).
Was wondering if it is because the charger doesn't like 4 batteries or if there is a fuse or loose connection inside the inverter.
Another issue is that when I switch on the generator or hook up to shore power I often have to switch all the breakers off and on - sometimes more than once - to get power. I wait until the power is connected after my surge protector kicks in or until the generator actually connects. I know I have power because the refrigerator and the hot water heater are switched to 120. Also my Heart Interface control panel also switches and the AC led comes on.
