Fridge temps

My dometic fridge will only go as low as 45 degrees, since the temperatures
are pre set how do I get a lower temp? Why would this fridge have a thermistor
if the temperatures are preset. And it does not work, moved it many times no change.

My Dometic had a thermister on the rear fins. You raise or lower it depending on which way you need to adjust the temperature. Also, when was the last time you defrosted it. Ice can build up behind the rear wall of the freezer and needs a serious defrost.

Thanks for the reply Don. It has been defrosted a few weeks ago, I have moved the thermister all over the place on the fins. Can I splice a new thermister on the wire ?

You must be in a DRY climate if defrosting every few weeks works for you.

And, move the thermister to the upper end of the last fin to get it to go colder (thermister in warmer location).

Also, consider a small battery-powered fan to circulate air in the refrigerator.

Yes. Google "Snip The Tip" for an easy thermister replacement. And, if I remember correctly, if you disconnect the (white?) thermister wire from the control box on the back outside of the refrigerator, the fridge should go to maximum cool. If it does this, it verifies you have a bad thermister. This technique was suggested by the Amish Refrigeration guy and worked for me

Thanks George, I will give that a try. So if bad I can cut the bad one off and splice on the new one, Either wire makes no difference ?

Although your fridge model uses Automatic Temp Control the thermistor supplies feedback to preset thermostat

Unplugging the thermistor leads at lower circuit board triggers Backup Operating System (BOS)
BOS then controls temp by continuous cooling .....better to freeze some items then allow then to become too warm

Snip-The-Tip is a Rheostat Control that replaces your Fin mounted thermistor.
Cut thermistor off......splice wires from Rheostat and mount to sidewall of fridge
Turn the knob to increase resistance (cooler) or decease resistance (less cooler)

Some folks prefer to replace with OEM......pull the leads out thru fridge backwall, snake new thermistor leads thru back wall and connect to circuit board placing thermistor on far right fin mid position

It is also possible that thermistor is out-of-spec on its readings; was about a $15 parts few years ago, and you can go to service manual or youtube to find out what it should read with ohmmeter and how to test. Have you verified the 45-degree w/ 2nd thermometer?
