So far so good on my new-to-me '89. I think it's gonna be hard to pin down a year range. Also, most of the older ones (that are still in good shape) have had most of the 'complaints' already taking care of, so the point is kinda moot.

That's kind of a trick question but I would say judging by the posts I have read, somewhere before 2003-2004 were the best years. I am always surprised by the poor quality posts since I am very happy with the quality of my '98 Sun Sport

This is an excellent question and a pole may help us get some answers. One thing to remember is that Gulf Stream has a general division and a luxury division. I will see if I can set up two poles to help us out.

The quality of the construction of our 90 Sun Clipper seems to be quite good (and the previous owner took good care of it), the Chevy 454 gasser had the usual expected exhaust manifold gasket leak but otherwise the drive train was and is in good shape for the year model it is.
The ONLY real complaint I can air relative to the coach is not with the coach it's self but with GULFSTREAM , could not get a wiring diagram on the unit and when contacted they acted like they didn't have time to talk about such an "OLD" unit !

i posted this because I own a 99 SVB and it is my first motor home, hell it even has a washer/dryer, not my first rv, i swapped a 36ft 2006 toy hauler and a 03 dodge dually for this. i had been looking at m/h for years , newmar this, dutchstar that, and it goes on .is it mint-no, but neither were the other used ones that i looked at but most gave the others a good name, as compared to the gulfstream. We are not full timers and the expense of paying a big chunk of money for a m/h and only use it a month a year didn’t make sense .i wanted a diesel, because that’s the type of guy i am, and a class A ,didn’t know much about the frame type, and it wouldn’t have been an issue. This year we went to the Oregon coast and interior for two weeks the unit ran great and we towed a wrangler behind it , ran the diesel generator for the house air and camped in the KOA's. We had the dirtiest one in any of the campgrounds because i was working on it up until the day we left B.C and didn’t have time to clean the outside. i am almost 60yr. now and we have one kid at home [9 yr old]and she likes to go with us so the size was important. If I could afford it i would like to upgrade into a unit that is a few years newer someday 03-05 and that’s the reason for the original post-i sandbag allot-thanks all

Had a 2007 GS Conquest 26' TT and dumped it in 2009 for the present Montana 5er. There was nothing major with the GS, just lots and lots of little things. Stereo was wired with one channel in the living room, the other in the bedroom. If we ran into rain while towing, water would come in around the slide so we had to pack towels to soak up the water. If the temp was cool, not cold, we could not get the inside warm. Mirror in the wardrobe came out and hit the other half in the head and gave her a small cut. As I said, nothing major, but I wouldn't get another, not after have the Monty.

I have a 2006 Gulf Stream Innsbruck 36FRS park trailer and will not buy another Gulf Stream unless I read about major improvements in engineering/design and quality. I felt sick at first with several things either my dealer or I found. Then, I started feeling better because there was nothing major and I was reading others' horror stories. Then, I found an engineering or construction issue that could have been major - the rubber wiper on the side of one of my slides was tucked in to the underbody "tarp", allowing water to run down and pool beneath the floor and above the underbody "tarp". This was the last straw for me.

Becky,
Sorry for your problems but bad engineering and shoddy construction coupled with lack of customer concern seem to be GS's way of doing business.

2007 Sun Voyager
We bought this as a new and unused unit in the fall of 2009. Dealer (Triangle RV in Frederick, MD) promised us a number of small things to get us to sign, which we did.
Generally:
Generally an OK unit. Wood is good. Flooring poor quality. Carpet cheap. Plumbing OK. No water leaks. Lots of air leaks in winter. Poor insulation. Few 110 VAC outlets. Inadequate outside storage. Way too shallow slides so somewhat cramped even at 39 ft long. Happy with workhorse chassis. Love the Allison and the 8.1 V8 engine both (but would buy a diesel if I could in a heartbeat)
BAD:
After buying, Gulf Stream refused to honor the warranty. This was a brand new, unused MH. Luckily it had no major issues. GS said it sat on the lot too long so they refused. I sent in a "help" request to that Good Sam magazine and they did contact GS, who just said it was their policy not to honor warranties on MH's that sat on the lot too long.
Dealer:
They did fix the broken AC system and a bad battery switch. Did some other cleaning. Would not replace the gen or engine fuel filters although the sales guy promised they would if we bought it. And they had it 10 of the first 12 weeks we owned it doing these things.
Funny or Odd:
The next spring (of 2010) it had two problems and the dealer said to bring it in to be fixed. The generator would not hold voltage, and the Workhorse chassis AC was not cooling. Well-get this - on picking it up they said, "Yes your generator is broken but we don't work on them, take it to a Cummins dealer, and yes your AC is broken, but we don't work on them so take it to a Workhorse authorized repair center". The funny is, the gen set had one loose plug wire which when connected made it happy, and one can of over the counter coolant woke it up and cooled most of the summer (so a slow leak somewhere). Total incompetence on the dealer's repair personnel.
Good luck, and I would NOT TOUCH ANOTHER GS MH.
Just my feelings after the run around. They simply did not care.
John

Just a couple to thing in my long list of GS crap:
I purchased this 2006 38' Crescendo as a repo so I got it cheap.
The kitchen side awning has always hit the awning in going out or in.
Out was not so bad as it just pushed it out of the way, in not so good as the slide would catch and not fully retract. I have just learned to extend the awning about a foot before operating the slide. I can handle this.
Now the biggie the other day I figured out a way to add lights to the awning so that you could extend and retract with out removal of lights. Simply install a couple of 1/4" eyebolts in place of the 1/4 X 20 x 3/4" bolts holding things together. This way I can add lights and if the wind comes up retract the awning with out having go grab a ladder and remove lights. When doing this I noticed that the 4 bolt/screws securing the upper part of the awning seemed loose so I garbed a 3/8" socket in order to tighten them. Crap what I found is that they did not go into anything except the thin outer skin no way in hell to tighten them. What I ended up doing was removing the false back of a cabinet drilling through the wall and installing 4" x 1/4" bolts and fender washers.
SO THIS IS GOLF STREAM QUALITY !!!!!! I have a hole list of GS crap I'll post later. Never again for GS.
Of if you have a Crescendo check your awning!!!!
