My first road trip in my '87 Sun Sport

So I finally took off in my '87 Gulf Stream Sun Sport 27 footer. Left home at midnite Fri (Sat Morning) headed for sunny Florida for 8 days of rv'ing. Let me tell you guys, it's been an adventure! Between alternator naps, brakes appying on their own, and hidden fuel filters stopping up, a simple 15 hour jog became a 36 hour marathon. Now I'm ready to make the return trip, I'll keep you posted from my next stop. Gulf Coast today, Cape Canaveral Tomorrow!

Update from the road: No more problems with the alternator or the brakes (what's up with that I wonder?), and located the mystery fuel filter in a narrow clearing between the RH storage locker and the outside of the frame rail. After replacing the carb fuel filter, the engine driven fuel pump and adding a booster electric pump with filter, I deep 6'd the old frame filter with a new piece of fuel hose and new clamps. I gotta tell you guys, the old girl runs like one of the new rigs. Today, Myrtle Beach State Park, tomorrow, Virginia Beach. Stay tuned!

Those shake down cruises can be brutal, glad to hear you got things straightened out.

Brake calipers have been known to stick when not used often. Might want to think about a brake fluid flush, and lube caliper slide mounts and pins when you get a chance.

Took me a while to get everything just the way I want it on my GS. I also feel it runs as good as anything newer, but without the expense and payments.

Another evening, another campground. Tonight I'm at the Holiday Trav-l-park in Virginia Beach, VA. The GS ran beautifully, 300 plus miles on less than one tank of fuel. Last night on the road, tomorrow leads me home again, but I'm definitely an RV'r.

When we bought our old class C it had been sitting for about 4 years. We attempted to fix all the issues and actually did real well. The shake down cruise had me filled with anticipation of being stuck on the side of the road but lo and behold we made a 500 mile journey with no issues. You just never know.

Hope the rest of your journey is safe and maintenance free.

Safe and sound at home, the old girl resting in the drive. Just finished crunching the numbers, and I'm impressed with the return trip. From Brooksville, FL to: Cocoa Beach, Kennedy Space Center, Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach and to home. 1524.4 miles, 164.5 Gallons of gas for a trip total of 9.24 mpg!
