Been looking at the Class A Motor homes for some time now and just bought a Sun-Voyager 2004 36 FT 15,000 on the Odometer and new tires. This has not been prepped yet by the dealer. Took it for a drive and it dove and the ride was quite nice even better than some of the newer models I have driven. I found only 2 , what I call major, problems one being the Odometer display was hard to read and one of the AC units was not providing very much cold air. Is there anything that I should ask the dealer to check for and what should I check and/or look for?

Do a search of this forum for PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) forms. Plan on spending a couple of hours checking out EVERYTHING in the motor home. If it has a slide or slides put them in and out at LEAST half a dozen times. Make the dealer prove that the tires are "new". He does that by pointing out the date codes on the tires. Have SOMEONE ELSE do a mechanical inspection on the engine/drive train. I'm not saying that your dealer is dishonest, but he IS an RV dealer. Verify condition of the drive train through a third party. Tell him you want to "camp" at his dealership at least overnight hooked up to power before you finalize the deal (ie; give him the last of the money). Check the hot water heaters out, first the electric, wait about 20 - 30 minutes, see if it is hot, THEN and only then turn on the propane hot water heater and make it sure it burns a clean blue color and keeps running. DRIVE THE RV! Keep a note of any weird sounds, handling difficulties. If the dealer is offering any warranty, GET IT IN WRITING, with SPECIFICS. good luck with your purchase!

Oh yeah, and try the generator if equipped. Turn on both AC's, etc, run it for at least 30 minutes with a load and see if it keeps up. Try the microwave, try the water on both shore water, as well as water pump. Check for soft spots under the slide, look for fogging in the windows if dual pane, look for ANY sign of leaks, smells of mold etc. Check ALL the appliances, lights, unroll the awning, look to see if you can see sunlight along the edge where it attached to the camper. Demand at a minimum a service on the generator and engine. Replace the transmission fluid. All I can think of right off.

Put it in writing that the air conditioners are cleaned, serviced and operating properly. they should have a 20 degree temperature drop across the evaporator or the difference from what goes in return to what comes out the vent. Good luck and keep us posted.

If it is on the workhorse chassis, Make sure the brake recall has been done. Also there was a recall on the instrument panel for that issue. Can the dealer explain the low mileage?

According to the dealer the couple that owned it did not go out of Texas and that he had sold it too them from the factory and they were the only owners of the MH and his shop did all of the maintenance on but did not mention anything about the recalls. We will have to ask him about that. Thanks!

Don't let the dealer give you any stuff about the brake recall on the Workhorse. Since it has only 15,000 miles, what happens is the plungers on the calibers stick because it was found that they were just the wrong material. I had all calibers, pads, rotors and sensors replaced on the recall at 50,000 miles. There is money set aside by workhorse to do this work. Sure don't want to get down the road and have a brake tied up on you. I now have over 100,000 miles on our 2004 Sun Voyager and not brake issues, knock on wood.
