Has anyone found a sealer product for our fiberglass roofs that will end the chalky, dirty streaks down the sides of the Gulf Streams?
I am parked next to a Newmar in my storage area and his sides and other high end motorhomes in the lot look fantastic. Like they had just been washed.
Mine looks like someone dumped mud all over it. I checked out the Newmar product and they use a PVC roof that doesn't chalk up like ours.
I'm sure the RV gutters help some, but these other coaches don't have the gutters and their's are still clean. I don't get it. Why can't GS look that good?
I've searched and searched and most products out there are for rubber or metal roofs. Can't seem to find anything for fiberglass.
Anyone have some ideas?????
Thanks

Steamerman, I am confused. What type of roof do you have. Mosy folks talking about chaulking/streaking issues have rubber roofs and sorry to say that is the nature of the beast. Rubber roofs will chaulk as part of the natural aging process. I have a Newmar with a rubber roof and the best help I have gotten is by buying gutter extensions from Camping World. I also tend to apply a lot more wax to the areas that would see streaking, good luck, Ken, '04 DSDP....

I don't have any problems of streaking or stains, fiberglass roof, to correct your problem just install a product called EZ GUTTER tape on one side install on edge of roof full length on each side which a directs the water, condensation and rain to one of 4 corners (no more problem)

I have a fiberglass roof but don't have the gutters all the way around, just on the front and for some reason under the awning. I plan to do the rest but thought there must be some other solution, like painting the roof with a UV resistant sealer or marine grade paint.
The new Newmars have Brite-Tec roofs which is a hard plastic like pvc and seems to work well preventing the oxidation that fiberglass gets.
Hyall... Do you have the gutter extensions that clip on the ends or do you just let the water run down the corners? If you have the extensions, do they work ok?
Thanks for the input.

I have found that washing the roof about twice a year to remove the dirt, ETC off helps to keep the dirt from causing streaks down the sides. I known the sealant will cause some chaulking, but like I stated washing the roof with a good automotive car wash helps greatly reduce this.
The fiberglass roofing should not be "chaulking".
We are on our second coach with the fiberglass roof and have not had any problem with either of them "chaulking" as you have stated.
We had two previous RV's with the rubber roof and they were a real pain with all the chaulk running down the sides. I would clean and treat it at least three times a year and it always seemed like a waste of time.

Ditto Ron
I find that if I am getting streaks the roof needs washing. I use Simple Green, just hose down the room and spread the soap on it and scrub with my brush. Will last several months between washings unless we work a race at a dirt track.

I too would recommend keeping the roof clean but also applying a good UV polish that will keep dirt from settling into the pores of the roof. One would want to be very careful on a polished roof, especially when wet.

It may not be the roof thats causing your chalky streaks on side of MH. As your seam sealents age and dry out they will start to cause white streaks to emit from the seams.
If thats what it is its time to reseal your seams, a good product I have found is Marine SILICONE Sealant from West Marine.
Its easy to work with and gives you time to dress the new seal with small finger so it looks better than factory job.

007.... That is a good point about the seams. I assumed it was the fiberglass. As it turns out, just yesterday I started resealing the seams because I had a leak around the fantastic fan. I'm going to check the old caulking.
Thanks for the tip.

These are also seams where your roof line meets your side walls and where front and rear caps meet side walls.
You also have a seam where side wall meets your compartment doors I have sealent along this seam which will elimiate wet compartment interiors.
