Urgent Advice Needed: Fixing Leaks Through Third Brake Light and Rear Window

Hey RV enthusiasts,

I’m dealing with a frustrating leak issue on my Gulf Stream Vintage 19ERD. After a recent rain, water started flooding the interior, streaming in through the top of the rear window and collecting in the window track, eventually seeping inside. To stop the damage, I temporarily sealed the third brake light and the window with duct tape and added a plastic cover outside, also secured with tape.

This quick fix isn’t going to cut it long-term, and I need your expert advice on how to tackle this issue once and for all. What’s the best way to properly seal these areas and prevent future leaks? I’d really appreciate any proven tips or step-by-step guidance you can offer.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Sebastian

I would remove the window, clean the surfaces and reapply butyl tape. Then add some vinyl stick on gutters (comes in white too) over the top of the window. With the third brake light, I'd run a 1/4" bead of clear bathroom caulking on the top and each side. Or, around all 4 sides and drill a couple small holes in the bottom of the lens so any moisture could evaporate. That sort of caulking fix wouldn't really work for long on the big window because of the flexing an RV gets on the road.

It's important to dry out the wall where the leak was so a small floor heater positioned to heat that area would help.

I did write up an ad free blog article that might give some insight, about what I did with my leaks: Weather Proofing...
