Does your "entry steps out" light on your dash work? That is the switch for that light.

Don't know either. Thought mine was a limit switch. It was wired to something, but appeared to do nothing.

The guts of mine were gone, so I replaced the switch with this switch from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Switch didn't fit very well, but I wired it up anyway and still nothing.

You and I seem to be on parallel paths. I was also in the process of replacing my step slides when I discovered the same switch.

BTW . . . how's that slide seal project coming?

My entry step out light never worked. I was in there a couple of years ago working on the controller and the motor and I discovered this switch and the wiring which not connected. Once I connected the wires properly the light has worked perfectly. I suppose you could also have a bad switch.
