05 Allure with Cat C9 low power on hills
My 05 Allure 470 cruises great on flat ground but 6% grade in 4th gear at 1800 rpm I can only go 40 mph. Wondering how other coaches do.

My last MH was a 43' Dutch Star with a C-9. 6-7 degree grades I had the same issues that you are having. Granted I was longer and heavier but I never had any problems on flat ground either.

My Cummins ISL was having hill climbing problems until I replaced my CAC. Turned out it was leaking and reducing boost. I didn't notice the problem on flat or gently sloping roads.

Do you have any gauges like Scangauge D or Silverleaf that reads boost pressure. If you have low boost that will slow you down, remember you don't have a C-13 or C-15. To me it sound about right.

That sounds about right. Are you towing anything up that hill?

Cat C9 low power on hills
Thank you for the responses. I have had the CAC checked and there was a hole in the hose. This did improve performance some. Doesn't seem to matter much whether I'M towing or not. I have a Bluefire dongle it is showing 28 lbs of boost under load.

28 sounds mostly okay. My C9 will show 31 once in awhile. It goes up better than yours but I’m only 40 ft pulling a car.

You are doing fine. The Cat manual says to manually downshift before starting the climb and keep downshifting to keep the rpm up. I always stay above 2000 rpm and it never gets warm. I figure I’m over 50,000 pounds towing my Denali 2500HD and don’t expect over 35-40 mph with 425 hp.
I am still able to pass most semis that are at 80,000 pounds with 450-500hp.
Enjoy the ride,
Dan
