My Costco golf cart batteries are doing ok at 4 years old. I keep my batteries connected to shore power in storage so they are fully charged I believe it extends their life.
Battery prices span quite a range. Costco or Sam's batteries will serve many just fine for intermittent use as long as water levels are maintained. If you are a boondocker that needs to use every bit of the battery energy every night to run the furnace, then look to higher end batteries like lifeline or trojan for that marginal increase in performance. Either will require maintenance to last a full and fruitful life (5-8 years). AGM's might be an suitable option financially if performing maintenance is an issue.
