1994 Affinity Check Transmission Light
Ok looking for some help on my old coach. Going out and doing my usual periodic checks and startup. It’s been parked for last last four months as we await better local travel weather.
Anyhow, today I did a visual of components, check all my fluid levels and tire pressures. Nothing out of the ordinary. Levels are good, no sign of leaks, no low voltage issues. All looking normal. So I fire up the coach and it starts right up. Oil pressure is good, air pressure build, etc. I look down at the Allison shift controller and the Check Transmission light is illuminated. So I cycle the transmission through neutral, first gear, reverse and back to neutral. No shifting issues whatsoever. Next I check fluid levels again and they are within parameters still. I cycled the coach on and off several times but the light is not going out.
I’ve got the manuals out to try and get the shift pad to flash the diagnostic codes but I am having no luck making that happen. The manual states to 1) turn the ignition to off, [in the run bay] 2) run a jumper between terminal “A” and “M” on the diagnostic port, 3) switch the diagnostic switch on, 4) return to the drivers seat and turn the ignition on to read the flashes.
I am unable to make this work. Perhaps I am not understanding the process. My first issue is the jumper. On the diagnostic plug terminal “A” is active but terminal ”M” is empty. That’s problem number one I suspect. Also I am not sure I have the correct switch. The only switch I have found on the run board is a momentary push button rather than a two pole on/off style. See the attached photos for more clarification.
So if anyone has an idea how to proceed or if they have an older CC and can take a look at their run board, that might be helpful. This is an1994 Affinity with CAT 3176 engine and 4 speed Allison HT746 transmission. Thanks.
