2003 Allure (first) questions
We are looking hard at a 2003 Allure 40 with 2 slides.
1. This coach currently has a jacknife couch in the slide and the computer desk option. We want to replace the jacknife with a foldout style sleep sofa. The key question: will it fit? Has anyone got that congfiuration? I've looked at two couch brands online and both state 87" minimum clearance, presumably from the slide wall. Not being able to fit one of these is a deal breaker.
2. Aside from the maintenance issues like tires and batteries, are there model-specific items that need to be checked? For example, does the "dry vs. wet PTO" question apply to this congfiuration? Any others?
Thanks foryour help,
Bob

Don't know about the couch. Like you said, it depends on where the measurements are taken.
In the '03 coaches, the wet vs dry PTO is on no concern as either the ISC or the ISL motors do not have the PTO. You are in the clear on that issue.

As far as the couch, I would think it depends! How long is the present couch? If you can find a same length pull out couch, it should fit.
On my Magna, with the Desk option opposite the J Couch, there is plenty of room for a different configuration couch. For now I just have other priorities for my available funds!

Just read the post again. Yes, you can install a pullout sleeper couch in the slide.Mine has the pullout and on the opposite side, we have a file cabinet. There is still plenty of room to walk by.

Friends of ours have a newer Allure. They wanted to replace a couch behind the passenger, but found there were some pipes that were in the way. Look underneath; if there are no obstacles, the coach should fit.

Not sure about the '03 but on our '07 the jackknife sofa on the passenger side is mounted on a carpet covered box under it that seems to contain a mechanism for the slide. We also wanted to remove it and put a recliner there, but discovered that whatever sofa or chair you put there would have to sit on top of that box or be specially made to mount on the box.

Thank you all for the input. Further measurements seem to rule it out, before even investigating what might be under there. Turns out there are only 42 inches between the edge of the couch and the desk with the slide open. The couch is roughly 36 inches deep, so it is way short of the 87 inch minimum required. It looks like we need to focus on 3-slide coaches.
Cheers,
Bob
