2003 Allure Oil Cooler Leak

We are in the first week of a 3 week trip and it seems the oil cooler is leaking. I would like to know if I can keep going on the trip and just add more oil if I check the levels often.

Here is some information:

1. I have inspected and there are no fittings/connection leaks anywhere...oil is collecting in the pan at the outside of the rad stack and leaking out the bottom.
2. The hyd oil tank is nearly empty and that is the oil on the ground.
3. I'll include a pic of the bottom of the rad stack where the leak is dripping.
4. We are located in Bradenton FL headed next to Ft. Pierce FL (Tues. hopefully).
5. Our coach is a 2003 Allure #30914 with a 370 Cummins.
6. I'll include a pic of the rad information.
7. I've considered calling the Cummins shop in Ocala tomorrow AM to see if they can help.
8. Do any of you have other repair suggestions?

Thanks for any suggestions....I'm really in a bind!

John

2003 Allure Oil Cooler Leak

I replied via email however I’ll post here as well.

I would drive and monitor hydraulic fluid - in fact I considered that except I had another 30 hours of traveling and I was getting hydraulic oil on my new toad.

My 2007 has a low hydraulic level sensor 1/4 way down tank it never did come on as I was still above that level when I noticed leak.

The top of my hydraulic tank comes off with two 9/16 bolts loosened on the band clamp. Yours should be same as it is the way to change filters. I found it easier to fill with the top off. You can see the level.

My fluid called for Dexron 3 ATF.

Good luck.

Regards,
Brian

PS. My leak was pretty slow - the cooler is on the low pressure side of the hydraulic system (return to the tank).

Removal of Oil Cooler.

Can anyone help to explain how you remove the oil cooler? Mine is held in place by a sheet metal pan that will not allow the oil cooler to be dropped down.

Any help is appreciated!

John

Hi John. If I remember correctly the bottom plate is held on by the two bolts, attached to bottom of rad support structure. Yes the oil cooler can be dropped out from under the CAC with the 4 bolts. My screen cover is hinged and swung up out of the way after removing the 3 screws holding the lower edge.

The hardest part was breaking loose the hydraulic hose/fittings connections. I ended up using heat (torch) and sucking wax back into the threads while it cooled - old mechanics trick. I'll go see if I can find some pictures.
