525 Aqua hot

Hey fellow CC owners,

Just recently my Ah-525D in house panel has been flashing a blink code of 8 flashes. I checked the basic lights on the control panel inside the bay and all were green as needed, and all worked fine with a reset of the on/off switch on the house panel. The unit works fine as far as heat, and hot water is concerned after resetting of switch. During the day when we are gone the panel light will flash 8 times. During the night when no hot water or heat is needed, as during the day it does not blink the 8 times? not that during the day either is needed. I don't get it?
I'm not gripping as of yet because it works fine when hot water is called for, or heat in the morning! But as you all well know blinking lights are an anxiety issue! Any ideas Bon, or other folks?
Appreciate it,

Phil Stone

From the 525-D manual
If the indicator light is blinking, count the number
of consecutive flashes, record the number, and contact
the Aqua-Hot Heating Systems Technical Support
Department at 1-800-685-4298.

I did see that, I was trying for someone who may know. I think the AH number could end up being an eternity on hold.

To their credit, I called a few weeks ago and used their call-back option for tech support. It took a few hours but they did in fact call back.

The blinking codes are standardized throughout the Aqua Hot lineup as far as I know. Eight blinks may indicate issues in four areas:

1) Did the high-limit thermostat trip?
2) Check the vehicle's fuel supply.
3) Check the fuel nozzle.
4) Check the fuel solenoid.

In other words, the burner was commanded on and it failed to remain lit. Or, a high-limit thermostat tripped.

When was the nozzle last replaced?

My nemesis was the high limit thermostat. Aqua Hot has gone through at least three suppliers of this device. Mine had become intermittent causing the burner to attempt to shut off and turn on in rapid succession. This caused a too-rich fuel situation and wetted/sooted the burner chamber. I changed my nozzle a lot chasing the issue. Installing a new high-temp cutoff switch solved everything for me. I've had the same nozzle for 2 years now. I'll change it soon as insurance against the next cold spell.

This is the replacement switch that I replaced my original high temp switch with. I didn't have to drain the system or tank to do the swap. Just let the system cool down and then fast hands are all that's required. I'd change it even if it's not your immediate problem. Perhaps then add it to your 5-year maintenance plan.

Thanks Bon, much appreciated! I noticed that the 525 was not a model listed as fitment for that switch, BUT i've also noticed the 525 not being listed in a lot of parts applications. All good, again thanks.
