Adapter for engine monitoring on '00 CC

While I understand the beauty of Silverleaf and now BlueFire (which is a thankful addition to the market, given that it uses bluetooth) for engine monitoring, the issue I have with both is needing a powered screen for output.

We wanted to keep it simple, uncluttered, and don't think we need tons of gauges, just the basics. Perhaps we'll upgrade to BlueFire later but for now, we're going to see how the Scangauge D will work for us.

Because we have a 2000 Magna and cannot find a 6-pin or 9-pin Deutsch port anywhere in the vicinity of the dash, I've purchased an adapter for the rectangular diagnostic port that we do have under the dash, J1708 ALDL Male to 6-pin Male Adapter. Hoping to get enough data off the 6-pin (which is really only 4 wires: 2 data wires + 1 ground, 1 power). Hoping it all works.

OBD Diagnostics has a ton of adapters & options, just btw. Great customer service, as well.

If not, well, plan B...or C. One expects to be flexible & patient with an older (but awesome) rig!

Most connectors are fastened up under/behind the dash, mine is almost hidden on the left of the steering column.

'00 adapter solved

Just wanted to close the loop on this for any other '00 owners who can't find the round (Deutsch) 6- or 9-pin diagnostic ports in their dash area but CAN locate the 12-pin rectangular one.

I got an adapter from OBD Diagnostics that adapted the 12-pin ALDL port to a standard J1708 (Deutsch) 6-pin, which is what the monitoring systems like BlueFire, Silverleaf, and Scangauge D use. Great customer service from the folks at OBD Diagnostics, btw.

I was skeptical but, it works! We decided to go with Scangauge D for now, perhaps we'll do a BlueFire unit, later. The Scangauge has all the data we need and was a very simple install...no need for a separate screen. I'll update once we've used it for a while but for now, we're pleased.

Scangauge D + adapter = all in for >$200

On our 2000 Magna the ports are hidden beneath the panel on the driver’s left side. Remove the screws and lift up the panel. We use Silverleaf with an older Toshiba touch screen laptop with the keyboard removed.

On our Magna, the 6-pin or 9-pin ports were not where yours were, nor anywhere else in the dash region. Hubby had the entire area apart for other stuff & painstakingly looked for the 6-pin or 9-pin round ports, to no avail. Seems like on our coach and others of the time, they used the ALDL rectangular ports. Turns out it's fine, with use of the adapter
