Its not just the start.

The generator uses electricity to run the ignition, fuel punp, hour meter and or if diesel the engine monitoring and shut down system.

I decided to do a bit more investigating. So I watched the house battery voltage (with charger turned off for a few minutes beforehand) while DW tried to start the genset. Voltage dropped immediately to 11.7V and the generator would not start.

So we tried using the Boost switch and the genset started fine.

I had planned to replace my house batteries when we got back off this trip in November. I have six 6V Full River AGM's purchased in 2013. Two years ago a shop doing some work on the coach left my house battery switch on and seriously discharged them. Since we haven't done any off grid camping, I haven't noticed how weak they are now. So, they will be replaced as soon as we get somewhere long enough to find some Lifelines.

I did look in the battery/inverter compartment and I cannot easily locate the positive wire that goes to the generator. There is a lug near the 105 amp genset start breaker but the wire attached to it goes directly to one of the chassis batteries. While can see where the genset start breaker is located, I cannot get to the back of that panel without some serious disassembly of the maze of wiring in that area.

Wouldn’t the output side of the 105 breaker go directly to the generator?

Which is exactly why converters should charge both chassis and house battery banks.
