Air bags for older gillig chassis

Hi There
Im a first time rv owner with a 1992 cc magna DP. I blew out one of the rear air bags last week and the service shop is telling me that the bag is no longer available for my coach. Anyone else have this issue and are there any solutions?
is this old of a dp a lost cause? Ive been getting my butt kicked at the service centers and could use someone in my corner

Thanks

Have you spoken directly with Gillig about getting the part? Most of what I've read online is that they aren't cheap but I didn't see complaints about availability. If Gillig can't help you most truck service centers who deal with suspensions should be able to find a compatibly sized airbag. If it's at an RV service center, that's probably your problem.

Is the chassis also a '92 or is it older? I can check to see if we have a replacement bag that will work for your application.

If you can do some your own repairs and can get the part numbers, the internet is your friend. You may find the part numbers in the Gillig manual that should have come with your coach.

In my Gillig "parts" manual, the bag is called a "spring" on the Rear Neway ARD 75-6 Suspension. There are 5 rear suspensions described and a couple of front suspensions.

I read about a CC owner who was charged a premium for his $2,000 worth of Dash AC repairs because his ac compressor was no longer made. Yet, for about the same vintage coach I found my replacement on the internet. It was very competitively priced and got the compressor replaced and system recharged for about $600.

Also, there is a much more active CC owners forum at:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Country-Coach-Owners/

You will have to register, but there is lots of thread history to be searched, pictures to view, all from as far back as 2001.

Hope this helps.

I checked with my customer service manager, and we do not have a replacement bag for this application at this time. Hopefully you can find a direct replacement on the internet.

Did you find a solution to your airbag blow out. Also curious how did it go out?

Hio!
Yes, the service center I was using finally located the air bags through firestone
they were pricey but the kicker was when they discovered a broken U bolt.
This proved to be my largest hurdle yet. I was being told that the particular U blot I needed was no longer being made and I was SOL..
After a few days of searching I finally found one $400 and some odd dollars later.. plus labor.... Once again took some major blows but the end result my coach levels and rides great...... fingers crossed no more whammies

That's great news, I am also looking at an older CC, 1993. One of my biggest concerns is parts avaiability. Glad your back up and running!

My oldie but goodie Rockwood Classic motor home was built on a 1988 Gillig bus chassis. A more massive chassis I have yet to see under a motor home. deSanford

air bag and parts

I'm a little late on this post but I have a 1994 CC Affinity and replaced the airbags when I bought it 3 years ago and got them from gillag directly. I thought the price was good and shipped right away. Only other problem was the webasto but found it was a circulation pump seized and blowing the fuse. A marine pump for $65.00 cured that. Webasto parts too expensive. No other problems. Premier RV in Oregon or CC themselves can lead you to the right people.

Anyone have the firestone parts numbers for the air springs. Mine are looking a bit cracked.

air bag and parts

Call Rick at Gillig motor home chassis division at 800-785-1500 or 510-785-1500 Mon to Thurs 5-5 and Friday 5-4.30. Each chassis probably have different bag numbers.
