Kevin is asking too much. I bought the new desiccant filter for under 40 dollars and installed it myself. The original had been in place for 20 years and was still working fine.

Hopefully this thread won't take wings or snowball like the tire life threads or the hearsayers will have us changing our air dryers every 6 months.

If the desiccant beads escape the element that could be a problem if not noticed right away.

Bendix AD-9. The new filter was purchased at a Western Star / Allison dealer a few years ago.

Thanks BRex. I think he's doing the whole canister because it's never been changed before. Anyway, it's not something that I want to try to tackle at this point.

He did say we definitely don't want the beads to get in the system.

Btw, does anyone know where the purge valve is on an '03 Allure 36?

There is a purge valve located on the bottom of the air dryer. Our Bendix AD-9 has a spin on filter located inside the housing. There is no need to replace the entire unit, just the filter element, unless something out of the ordinary has occurred to the purge valve. JMO.
