Air Horns Wonít Stop

We had an interesting event take place this afternoon while driving home and itís still not resolved.

While driving we needed to use the horn. When pressed the horn sounded off and then never stopped. So, we pulled over and went looking for the problem. We pulled the fuse and no change. We unplugged the horn relay and it never stopped. We then removed covers beside the generator looking for the horns to unplug them. We found them not behind covers but rather above the step and back a bit but looking at them changed nothing. Believing there must be an air relay telling the horn when activated to open and supply air we worked to get rid of the air. We did this by discharging the coaches air and we met with success. The noise went away and all appeared good until we started the coach, the noise returned.

Now a couple of hours roadside working on this and only 70 minutes from home we jump in the coach and drove home with the air horns blazing. We are now parked and will start tomorrow to sort this out.

It appears air goes to the horns directly. Any idea where it comes from? Where might there be an air supply relay/solenoid?

Any suggestions on where to begin? Anyone have the same or similar issue?

Is your horn switch stuck? That happens with pressure switches.

We had the same thing happen to our Affinity. There was a solenoid valve on the front wall of the forward most drivers side compartment. The valve stuck open due to some crud in the airline. I was able to clean it out and restore the operation of the horns. Sometimes you can get the valve to close with a rap from a wrench or pliers.

Air Horns Wonít Stop

I do believe something is stuck. I couldnít see a valve on the forward wall of the front compartment. Good to know there should be one, I will explore further tomorrow and report back.

Thank you both for your questions and thoughts.

My horn air valve is located under the driver at the external floor level. If you remove the air valve wire to this solenoid it should stop if it doesn’t the valve is stuck open And needs replacing or repair. If it stops when the wire is disconnected the Steering wheelhorn switch is the culprit most likely.

Being a Canadian and mostly around home these days I am thinking I will try a local parts shop first. Should there be no success here I will reach out to the folks in Junction City.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Simple air valve at Amazon is under $20.00.

Happy Glamping.

Happy Glamping.

Thank you for finding this for me. It is now ordered and I will have it Thursday. I added a manual valve which I will have inline should I ever need it again.

Not as many as I thought I would get. I guess going up the highway at 65 MPH drowned some of the noise outside. It was plenty annoying inside.

I added an electrical On/Off switch for my air horns to avoid the embarrassing accidental late night blast in a campground or neighborhood. The manual shutoff valve in the air line to the solenoid is a great idea too and easy to add. It hadnít occurred to that the valve may also fail open.
