Bedroom closet door handle

After some travel on the atrocious Illinois US 20, the bedroom mirror door closet handle has come loose. Looking at it, it appears the short screws go only through the glass backing plate of the handle and that plate is stuck to the glass using that super strong double sided stuff I've found in a few other places in the coach.

So the question is how can the backing plate be unstuck from the mirror glass so I can re install the handle and this time use lock tite? Very concerned about breaking the backing plat or the mirror glass when removing.

This certainly wasn't thought out very well by CC.

Same thing on our coach. It has been loose for years and I'm scared to try and remove it to tighten the handle. Gonna wait till it breaks and then worry about it.

Ours is off completely so I am going to find a way to get the backing plate off the mirror.

Very, very carefully. :>)

If there is enough thickness in the adhesive you can use a strong string, I'm thinking braided fishing line, and slip between mirror and handle and pull the string back and forth to 'saw' through the adhesive. Don't saw too fast as you will generate enough heat to melt the plastic.

My sliding glass mirror handle mounts were cracked. A sharp putty knife can be worked behind the plastic mount and gets through the double stick tape. I replaced with the same plastic mount which lasted a year or so then cracked again. There is quite a bit of pull required to get the heavy mirror door to open.

I made some steel mounts out of strap iron. Drilled and counter sunk the mounting screws holes. I painted them with metallic silver, reinstalled the handle and stuck them back on the mirror with 3M Mounting Tape

While the backing plate is not a fancy mirrored plate the steel one will not be breaking and looks just fine.

Someone in a FB group recommended braided fishing line. Got the strongest available, it cut right through the adhesive, took about 15 minutes all told to remove, line broke a few times but I just replaced and kept cutting. Worked like a champ. Reattached the handle with red locktite, then poured super glue around the screw heads.
