We made it! I jumped across the positive terminals and ran the generator. It worked well. The alternator gauge even read around 13 volts all the way home.

Thanks again, time to head to bed and look at this tomorrow, it was a late night

depending on which leece alternator you have there is a direct swap for a delco alternator that if dies again you can go to you local parts store and replace it.

post #37 is the part number for the alternators.

My part number is a A0012824LC 160 amps. Where did you find your cross-reference info?

KrazyKiller, were you able to use the existing brackets? It looks like a simple change if it all bolts up.

I know this ripples to a few other items too, but for those that have beefed up their coach batteries, some owners I know have taken this opportunity to popup to a 200A unit.

Not needed by most, but worth knowing that you can if spending the money to changeover.

yes I used same brackets from old to new alternator.
you have a 160 amp alternator I just looked up your part number and you can jump to the 200 amp no problem and it will be the same part number I listed for the Delco and you can go to AutoZone, Advance Auto or any other box store and get the alternator. just remember that you don't hook up ignition wire if you do switch because these are self exciting alternators.

I am inclined to support your diagnosis of a failing alternator.. Thankfully on many motor homes you have an option (though you may need to install a jumper to use it)

The Generator will power the converter to charge the batteries.. IF you have a BIRD (Bidirectional Isolator Relay Device) you are all set 30 seconds after engagement the chassis battery will be charged by the house

IF NOT.. Jumper across the isolator and ... Still good.

Then you can take your life savings and head for the repair shop with it (Ok somewhat of a joke here but do head to the shop)

Thanks for the help. I called auto zone today. It sounds like they use a brand called raw power instead of Delco. Has anyone tried one from auto zone? They had a 200 amp alternator for 300.00

A little advice, get a 75 amp battery charger and tuck it in a bay. You never know when you might need it. You could have just run the generator and plugged it in to keep the chassis batteries charged. I learned about having one when my inverter/charger died. Again, plugged into shore power, it would have run all of my 12 volt systems.

I replace my alternator about 2 years ago, I ordered from Freightliner, cost was three or four hundred. It wasn't that bad to change.

if your not in a super big hurry you can get it off of amazon just type the part number in there and it should pop up and be around 150.00 bucks. if amazon isn't where you want to order just Google search with the part number and other places should pop up that sell the alternator.

I ordered one from Napa today, they can have it by end of day. They had a labor day sale and had 20% off. The 200 amp Delco came in a 330.00 and they will switch out the pull for me.

Krazy, was it the White wire that you didn't hook up?
