Original dash unit was Double-Din

I believe the original AVIC-N2 was a double-din unit and when upgraded in 2012 by previous owner it was again a double-din unit. The dash cutout is now a double-din and I could have installed a single-din same type stereo with 10.1” display. The new units are very light and also only penetrate past dash face 1 1/4-1 1/2”. If I used a single din depending on specific stereo I could have “ added” a storage compartment in lieu of staying with double-din.
