CAPS pump replacement
There is a huge backstory here but will spare all the details...Been having an issue with diesel in my oil over the last 1.5 years. I have changed my oil and filter twice now based on the advice of my local truck center (not a Cummins shop). They thought that it was just "slurp or something like that", since they idled it to long while in having air bags replaced.
I was told yesterday that the CAPS is the issue aannnddd the engine and transmission would have to be dropped to replace it. REALLY??? This is a 2002 CC allure with ISC 8.3. I have read a lot of post from you guys about the CAPS and I haven't read anywhere where the engine and transmission have to be dropped in order to do this replacement.
Then they say they are not interested in doing the job and I gladly drove it back home a parked it in my building. Just FYI: my local Cummins shop refuses to work/service Coaches...
So, CC friends that have had this done please advise and what was the cost of yours?

Drop the engine and trans to replace the CAPS? That is a real knee slapper. No way does anything need to be dropped to replace the CAPS.
As far as fuel in the oil, I'm not sure about that but for sure I would get another opinion because pumps are not cheap!

X's 2! The moment they 'Do not want to work on RV's...' - well, move on.
I did not look at your profile to see where you're located. Suggest you give the region you're in, and hopefully others will give you some input on other repair facilities.
And, it would not hurt - to ask under the Power Train Garage Cummins - for input too!
Best of luck - and please update when you know...

Morning. I haven't had a failure, yet. I did have an external fuel leak that just required some o rings and removal of the square accumulator on top of the pump. All has been well since, knock on wood. In preperation for this I have researched some diesel guys and I have spoken with these guys to troubleshoot. They seem very helpful. I believe they also have on site service. I have no affiliation just have spoken to them on my leak issue.

funjnt, Hopefully mine will be o ring issues as well. I just have to find a quality shop that is willing to work on a MH and to do full testing to see what the issues are, I don't want to just throw parts at by guessing...
Thanks for the link, I will definitely check it out.

Don, my thoughts exactly!!! Thats when I drove away...I actually spoke with Gregg Bootes at OMC yesterday after I posted this and he confirmed that NO, the engine and trans does not need to be dropped. He actually said you would have to cut the rear bottom cap off to bring the engine out the back of the Coach. Believe me, I'm not doing any of that!!! LOL

And if it comes.down to it bkdiesel can rebuild your pump cheaper than replacement with a few days for turn around

Fingers crossed that it does not need to be... But, X's2 on what Greg said!
And because we had CAPS in our 04 Allure, ISL370(400), we always added Opti-Lube to each tank for added lubricity. Cheap in the scheme of things...
Ongoing good luck on this one!
