We've averaged about 5.8 mpg over the life of the coach. I've found that I get near 7 when driving on the flats, but it's the hills and mountains that kill us. I don't worry too much about it anymore. It's just part of enjoying our coach.

Go with Cummins 600, stay away from 650. Get a pre 2009, no later than 08 because it's the ones with the emissions that are causing all the problems

Detroit's
CATS
Cummins
Stick with 450 plus HP.
Big Blocks
Millions of all 3 in boats, trucks, generator 's
Around the world running 24 /7 in all conditions.
Properly systematically serviced they are all very dependable.
RVs
Many owners buying a DP have no clue as to operating and maintaining a Commercial Diesel.
#1 basic
Clean fuel
#2. Basic
Never skimp on fuel filters.
Many post about , didnt know to chang filters?
Where are my fuel filters ?
How many do I have ?
Got towed or stranded because I didn't know ? To check radiator cleanliness, coolant level. Air filter ? #1 Fuel filters
Or I didn't want to spend $80. ??? On fuel filters.
Or
I never changed a fuel filter on my car.
Why a Diesel???
Buy the big blocks
Spend the $$$$ to service.
Enjoy.
Yes
There are exceptions
Cooling is a issue in some units, manufacturers ??? Lack of quality.
Going cheap on radiator size and quality.
Lack of R&D concerning air flow and engine cooling.
Engine quality control at times ?
It happens.
But as the above posters say.
Research.
Overall, they are all good.
You only read about the rare faults.failures.
Again
Service , maintenance = Happy trouble free miles.
