Cost To Install Flooring

I took the Inspire to a local RV repair center that does quite a few remodels.

I told the estimator I'd remove all furniture except the driver's seat, and tear out the existing flooring.

Is 85hrs to install carpet and vinyl tile on bare floors excessive? And $11000 plus materials!

I think I could do it in less time than that!

85 hours is 2 guys for a week! I had my 2100 square foot house done for $4000 in materials and they were in and out in a day. I would check somewhere else.

429CV23,

Check this person on FB, he is an excellent craftsman, I have seen his work, and have not seen any work better than his... He has FB group above, check out his work, I am sure you could save more than half of what you were quoted...

Yep. I have 36 foot gasser and got a quote from a remodeler very near Elkhart, IN. 10,000. For less than 300 square feet.
Did it myself for about 900 with better materials. We have owned our MH for 20 months or so, have camped in 3 states, and I am still astonished at what service centers charge for some things, and yet, some of the services are are reasonable. It seems to me that RV’s and boats have some of the same issues. And sometimes gouging is just part of the deal.

Can't you just get an installer from Lowe's or Home Depot to install new flooring in an RV?

I think 30 hours would be generously appropriate, if you're pulling the old flooring and pulling and reinstalling the furniture.

There's no such thing - all they do is have a list of local contractors who will separately quote you for a job with all the "extra things" they discover, so that the advertised price of 50 cents a foot is only advertised and never actually received.

For what it's worth on the OP's quote... I bought some premium bamboo waterproof flooring from Lowes and did the entire 40' coach myself over the course of about 5 days, that included some extra removal work (tile floor) and taking my time to cut in the edges with VERY close tolerances so I don't have a lot of trim work to do... Cost even WITH buying a new radial arm saw was between $800 and $900 for the entire job.

I'll HAPPILY take $10k for doing the flooring in someone's RV, that's great money for the one making it, but LOUSY for the one paying it!

We just had the carpet replaced in the living area by a local flooring company that does RV's. Cost was $2900.00. Sixteen hundred was labor. That included s custom mat for the driver/passenger area and four small covers for the steps + an extra throw rug. All with bound edges. They removed/reinstalled all the furniture.

The RV center where we have had other work done quoted us $3000.00 labor only, we were to supply the carpet.

I really hate to say it, but so much depends on whether or not, there's a lot of different jobbers who will do the job....COMPETITION is one of the things that has kept America Great!! In any society, if there's no competition, they can name their own price....

Thanks for the responses!

Busbum: thanks for the recommendation! I wish he were closer or I had time to take the coach to him. Looks like he does exceptional work.

I called another local company that does RV remodeling to set a time for an estimate. "We don't do quotes or estimates" They're happy to do the job, and are even happier charging $165/hr for however long it takes.

I have a local carpet contractor who will be doing it. I talked to him about the job first, but he doesn't do tile work. We decided to go with a sheet vinyl for the kitchen & bathroom areas, so he can install all of it now. He does quite a few RV flooring jobs, and comes recommended from one of the local RV dealers who he does quite a bit of work for. He'll look at it this week, work will be scheduled for mid-July.

"We decided to go with a sheet vinyl..." Did you really mean sheet vinyl or mean vinyl planks?

I did vinyl planks, the entire coach from pedal area to bedroom, and diy. I didn't remove the sofas but did remove the driver and co-pilot seats, which was an easy part. Good luck with your project.

Sheet vinyl, assuming we can find an embossed/textured pattern we like. No seams so no chance of water damage.

I don't know where you are, but if you do sheet vinyl, avoid below-zero temperatures. I've seen it crack right in half here in Minnesota.
