That sounds like you're onto something. It's been raining a lot here ... (gee, PCNW, go figure).

I'll explore that as a possibility. I'm guessing my module is also inside the door frame. I see the wire bundle going into it. Didn't see a module inside the generator compartment, but I didn't really look too hard for it today.

Thanks!

OK, in messing around and looking at the contact actuators, I saw that the one for the engine compartment appeared rusty. I jiggled the wire and it fell apart. The connector for the wire has broken off inside the female connection of the push pin actuator. I've removed the actuator for now and trying to locate a replacement for it. If that fails, I may have to ream out the connector and find a new male connector for the wire.

Meanwhile, the wire is not connected. I can set the alarm with it disconnected and the alarm goes off when I open a compartment bay door while armed. I thought maybe I had temporarily resolved the issue, but 15-30 minutes later the alarm went off spuriously on its own.

So, this begs the question. Is the unconnected engine door creating the problem or do I have a deeper problem that is not related to the pin. In other words, will the system work correctly with one pin disconnected?

From the alarm's point of view they are normally all disconnected. The alarm is activated by any of the wires attached to a pin switch getting connected to ground by the switch.

If it's not a faulty pin switch or pin switch wire it could be a motion detector. Our alarm has a motion detector inside the coach that can activate the alarm. It also has a switch that can be set to disable the motion sensing function.

That's what I thought Dave....that the contact was grounded when the pin extended (due to opening the door).

As far as I know, I don't have a motion detector installed in my coach. I've never see a switch to arm/disarm motion sensing anywhere.

I have fixed the switch and reinstalled it. Alarm is set and waiting.................

The only thing I can think of left is a bad wire somewhere or the module itself. I did look at the wiring inside the door panel and everything appeared well.

On our coach the switch on the entry door that activates the lights on the steps also activates the alarm. It's not a pin switch but it does the same thing by grounding the wire going to the alarm in addition to activating the step lights. We had that switch go flaky once causing the steps to randomly extend and retract while going down the road. Since the alarm was not armed it did not go off but I believe it would have if the alarm had been set.

I pulled out the switch and the plate to which it is mounted and hosed it down with contact cleaner. All's been good since.

Just got off the phone with the parts guy at Premier RV in Junction City. He was pretty sure that our coach was not equipped with motion detector. He also commented on what a headache it turned out to be on those coaches that were.

I had similar problems with my step doing its own thing going down the road. In my case, I pulled the ground wire from beneath the coach that was COATED with road grime and grease, cleaned it with alcohol, and reinstalled it. That cleared the problem and haven't had an issue since.

If it ain't one thing, it's another

So far 45 minutes and no alarm sounded! But, I'm not holding my breath that I fixed it. Seems to me that it's more likely in the module or somewhere in the wiring bundle causing a ground. But, I guess it's possible that a loose wire was grounding itself sporadically. We'll see!

I can see where the motion sensor option could be a real hassle if it went flaky. Ours has never triggered an alarm but that's probably because the feature is not enabled.

A loose wire touching ground is a strong possibility.

Good luck!

I'm glad my rig doesn't have a motion sensor as I take 7 cats with me!

Well....fixing that wire and pin didn't do the trick ... alarm went off again next day (may have gone off earlier, but I didn't hear it).

Continuing the search project.
