Echo battery charger replacement for Country Coach

Still troubleshooting chassis batteries charging problem. Called MOT tech support and was informed that my inverter does not charge the chassis batteries. Echo charger in the electrical bay does. Anyone replaced this. How complex.

Just google it. It is only three or four wire hookup. Small box that hooks to chassis and house batteries. When it sense charging voltage on house batteries it trickle charges chassis.

Be sure to check the circuit breakers. They could be tripped as mine were but I had already purchased a Magnum brand to replace mine.

The Xantrex Echo charger died on my coach right after we got it in 2013. I replaced it with a Trik-L-Start. It is very easy to install (3 wires) and it works like a charm.

I have replaced my Echo charger with another Echo charger and it works just fine. One thing to look at is the in-line fuse for the charger. I've blown mine before.

I replaced mine with the Magnum Battery Combiner. Simple three wire job. Easy to get to. Easy to replace.

Did you have issues with the Echo as reason for change.

The Echo Charger does have internal fuses. Make sure they are good before spending $$ on a new charger.

The reason I replaced my Echo Charger with the Magnum was the failure of the Echo Charger. I see no reason to make the change unless the EC has failed.

The only difference between them, when wired the same, is that the EC will charge the chassis battery at up to 15 amps while Magnum will charge at up to 30 amps. Also the Magnum can be wired to close the battery combiner solenoid if desired.

Combiner 100 Sheet

This device works well and is easy to install. I have been using mine for close to 5 years.

I replaced my Echo charger with a Magnam and my engine battery is still losing its charge. I have adjusted it as per the instructions but, still have the same problem. Someone above mentioned circuit breakers. I cannot find any that feed the charger in my wiring diagrams. Any ideas?

There are no circuit breakers involved with the Echo Charger. There are three wires to the device. One is hot to house battery with an inline fuse. Another is hot to the chassis battery with an inline fuse. The last is common ground.

I have never seen an EC with internal fuses.

If you are plugged in to 120VAC,
and your inverter/charger is working,
and your Magnum device is correctly installed,
and the settings are correct,
and both inline fuses are good,
and your chassis batteries are dying,
either you device is bad or
your chassis battery is bad.

What do the Magnum led lights tell you?

Gsander1, thanks, but I have made all these checks, more than once, and my starting battery still drains if it sits a couple of weeks while plugged into 50 amps. The 8D battery is less than a year old and has been load tested by two different suppliers. I am at a loss. I know the Echo charger was bad as it got water in it when a shop washed the battery off. Prior to that, every thing performed okay. Is there a fool proof test for the Magnum unit to see if it is functioning properly?
