Electrical/Battery Issue

We have been located 70 miles south of Phoenix and have not moved since, August 2019. The front air conditioner died in August. We where using the rear air conditioner until, me wife turn it on and it started popping breakers. she quickly turned them off and back on. We where headed out the door anyway and proceed to do so. When we got outside we noticed a smell and figured it was from the guy next door and his 5th wheel. After a short time we decided it was coming from the battery compartment, which we quickly opened. The Xantrex diagnostic light was flashing orange, very had to figure it out. The golf cart batteries was slightly swollen and it looked like a stain on top of the batteries. The next morning there was an absorption light that went out.

How much trouble am I in?

If you have batteries with caps to check the water, have you been checking them ?

Sounds like battery cell shorted.....
New batteries ALL around

Take pictures/label battery cables PRIOR to removing them so you can hookup the new batteries correctly

Also need to check the 'charger' output (be it from an inverter/charger OR a converter/charger) and verify it is NOT producing HIGH Voltage overcharging batteries

You have a Xantrex RV3012 inverter/charger if it has not been replaced from factory. Has nothing to do with air conditioners.

The flashing orange LED is normal indicating the charger is in absorption charge mode. Fast flashing green is float charge mode.

No problem with batteries in my opinion - except make sure they have proper water level in them - use deionized water to fill - about a shot glass per cell at a time.

The air conditioners have probably burnt the start/run capacitors. I replaced the capacitors in my rear A/C unit. Not that difficult is you keep the wires straight for connecting up new ones. Capacitors can be dangerous as they hold charge even when breaker is off - it is a good idea to know how to short them to ground before removing.

If you want additional help PM me and I can try to walk through it with you if you feel comfortable tackling the task.

I have 2007 37’ Allure.

Brian

The other 4 batteries are Lifeline AGM batteries. thanks for the support, all I know is "be careful around batteries" The RC7 display shows charge 100% and battery full. I think I will have change the golf cart batteries, what could happen if I start the Coach and should I?

Wally, have you tried to call Eric Olstrom in Tucson? He travels between Phx and Tucson. His phone is 520-624-2024.

OK, More problems. My wife complained about no water heat on the electric element, no unusual. However, when I looked at the EMS and RC7 panel both where off. We switched off the Front and Rear A/C breakers this morning, so we turned both of them back on. The EMS panel is all lite and we 120V in the cabin. The problem is no RC7 display and we looked at the transfer switch and line 1 & 2 are both red. We took a picture of the transfer switch yesterday and both line 1 & 2lines where red and we failed to notice it. Can someone please, please try and tell me whats going on?

Wfalch,

Are you talking about the EMS Line 1 and Line 2 showing red on what I imagine would be a surgegaurd 34560? My transfer switch has no lights and is enclosed in a metallic box that needs to be unscrewed to access. But the EMS does have lights to show status, on the 34560 red lights a fault. Green system OK. Strange that you have power with red lights illuminated
What EMS do you have?
RC7 runs on 12v if I recall correctly. Salesman/Battery disconnect switch is on and has not been accidently turned off?

Just some thoughts,
greg

Sorry the EMS switch is on the panel in the hallway, shows 50AMPs and all the devices, such as water heater, washer dryer etc.
I was talking about the transfer switch in bay with line 1 & 2 being red.
50 AMP SMART EMS
AC LINE
AMPS
LOAD METER
BY INTELLITEC
The salesman switch has to be on since we are getting 12v lights

very sorry if I am not clear as this is really stressing us out.

One more thing the transfer switch key is in the "on" position.

Wally,

Just an idea can you disconnect from the shore power pedestal and fire off the generator and see if there is any change? At least see if the surgeguard goes green will take a couple minutes for the transfer switch to switch over

Well, interesting. However I have never done that b4, I have always started the generator from the switch in the panel above the door.
My other problem is the generator slide will not come out, sacred to death to fire it up.
