Fuel filters

I read somewhere on the forum that the fuel filters for my coach were updated to:

FS1003 [10 micron] replaces original FS1022 [10 micron]
FF5488 [5 micron replaces original FS1242 [20 micron]

Well another new Country Coach owner and I went ahead and order the updated filters only to find neither is compatible with our coaches.

The new primary [FF5544] is for a threaded stud of 7/8"-14 whereas the original is 1"-14

The new secondary [FS1003] has a different sized heater/sensor plug.

Hopefully no one else will ran into this problem?

I did a bit of exploring today and found the "new" FS1003 heater/sensor device can be removed from the filter as can the one from "old" FS1022 and swapped and thus either can be used as a secondary filter both being 10 micron.

Of cause no hope for the FF5544 and I can not find a filter head for the element to fit and fabricate a fuel polishing fixture.

I use the FS 1022 for the secondary filter (10 micron)

You can use the FS 1015 for the primary filter (10 micron)
If you donít have the plastic bowl, get the FS 1015B (comes with bowl)

Or you can use the FS 1242 for the primary filter (20 micron)
If you donít have the plastic bowl, get the FS 1242B (comes with bowl)

These are the filters I use. Direct replacements with no issues. Secondary is a NAPA Gold 3422 (About $25 online) and Primary is a 533775 NAPA Gold or WIX (Wix and NAPA gold are the same thing.) Primary does not have the plastic bowl, but I reuse my old one with no issue.

The Primary filters are available from Amazon MUCH cheaper than from my Local NAPA so you may want to shop around if you are not in a bind. About 30% cheaper!

Good luck.

I would not recommend the NAPA Gold 3422, I believe it has a 2 micron rating. For a CAPS injection pump, a 10 micron rating is recommended. You could use a 2 micron filter if you had a common rail pump or if you installed a Fass or AirDog lift pump with a fuel pressure gauge.

CAPS injection pumps already have a problem pulling fuel from the tank. Using a 2 micron filter only makes the problem worse.
