Full Size Residential Fridge Replacement

I currently have a large fridge with 2 thin side by side doors... freezer on the left and fridge on the right. I am guessing it's 30 to 32 inches wide... will measure tomorrow.

I much prefer the setup I have in my home - with two doors up top for the fridge and a bottom freezer pull out drawer. This creates a nicer opening for large pizza boxes, etc.

Anyway... has anyone replaced their full sized fridge? Does this always require going through the windshield?

Depends on your door size. You have a pretty good size front door so probably what they can do is remove the doors of the new refer and bring it in thru the front door.

Our 12cuft Dometic was taken out a side window and a 18cuft Samsung was brought in the same window

Depends on how large your side windows are. You will have to measure them to find out and you might have to remove the doors on the refrigerator to get them in/out.

Good luck,
Jon

hmmm... didn't think about removing the fridge doors. I'll take some measurements on the fridge "body" without the doors and see if that will go through my entry door.

Thanks!

Your existing fridge may fit thru the entry door with fridge doors removed, passenger seat removed. If not, probably out one of the larger side windows.

You probably have the Amama side by side, same as in our coach. Our's is getting tired and, like you, we don't care for side by side fridges. We are thinking of replacing it with a French door, bottom freezer model this winter. The shop that will do the swap said they usually take out a side window.

Yeah... that's what I am going with also. (french doors with bottom freezer)

It doesn't appear to me that any of my windows are wider than my door - but I'll have to take some measurements.

I have a few windows that are fogged, so maybe I'll get lucky and one of the fogged ones will be big enough - and I can solve both issues.

Looks like I have 28 to 29 inches if I remove my screen door. Doesn't appear to be an easy way to remove the actual entry door - but that would give another couple of inches.

I didn't realize my fridge is 36 inches wide! Can't really tell how deep it is as it's fully enclosed on all sides. Are most of the fridges inside slideouts the shallower "counter depth" type?

I just replaced my old amana fridge with a samsung 18 cube like

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

I had to go with this one as I did not have enough height for the french door counter depth unit . fridge is on the slide and because of the slide roof was on a slight angle for water to drain off .

I looked at removing the front window but ended up cutting the door frame and hinge at about 2/3 up and left the door in place .

it was easy and only took about 15 minutes to cut and remove , 10 minutes to reinstall after the old fridge came out and the new fridge went in .

I did lots and lots of measuring before to make sure it would work and there was lots of extra room ( 1/8 " ) but I put card board on all the surfaces that the fridges would come in contact with

Measure your Frig - I just installed the Samsung 17.5 and took off the doors and brought it in through the Emergency window in the Living Area.

Most of the Units in the Newer Coaches are 36" counter depth double door - you will need to look for a French Door Refrigerator.

Measure Both the Width and the Depth as it is Critical.

Best of Luck,

I don't think the Amana CC used is counter depth. Mine is on the passenger side of the coach across from the pantry and not in a slide. The wall of the enclosure is pretty deep.

I was looking at Lowe's recently and they have a couple of French door Whirlpool's that look like they would fit the space.

Open the door on your refrig and take a Picture of the Model number - then Google it to get the info on the Replacements needed dimensions - much easier and More reliable info.

While you've got your phone out to take that photo of the refrigerator label, you might look for a phone app named "Centriq". With the Centriq app, you can:
1> Scan the name plates on appliances in your home. You can usually find the name plate underneath or inside each appliance.

2> The app will automatically download all relevant information, including manuals and warranty information.

Just download the Centriq app from the App Store, GooglePlay, or via text message through their website.

Here's a link to a "This Old House" video that demos the benefits of the Centriq app: https://www.thisoldhouse.com/watch/f...ganization-app

Take care,
Stu

Not only can front door be removed, the trims on the frame can be removed too that really opens up the width by as much as 2 inches. When I replaced my fridge I brought in/out through front door with trims removed (knowing different coach and different fridges)...
