Generator shut down

Power tech generator cd8000, 2000 Intrigue. My gen overheated and shut down coolant coming out of the overflow, what could cause this and how do I access the hoses at the back?
Thanks for any advice.

Bartman008, I hoped someone else would have chimed in by now because I don't have a lot to contribute other than the generic troubleshooting steps of checking coolant levels, 50/50 glycol concentration, fan belt, and removing any restrictions to airflow to the radiator. I've only experienced overheating once or twice last July in Arizona on a trip, and I merely let it cool down and top off the coolant, with no further issues. Make sure you refill first through the radiator cap, then the overflow bottle. They are both a tight access on my 98 Allure, so you may have to practically spoon feed them.

I think these Powertech CD7000 & 8000 gensets are very reliable, if not for the fact so few problems are reported. If the basics don't get you back up to speed, probably giving Power Technology a phone call is the next step. They've responded quickly to e-mails I've sent asking about filters.

i had once like that, the same unit. i was running both a/c's on high in a hot summer at the time. i flushed the radiator, and avoided using both a/c's concurrently. it hasn't come back since then for 3 years now.

The Powertech will protect itself by shutting down when over temp is reached. Had it happen once when radiator cap was not put on tightly and leaked. Let it cool down and refilled radiator and overflow container. Works fine. Just keep a check on it to make sure there is not a slow leak somewhere.
