Generator Start Issue

Hi All,

So I have an Onan Quiet Diesel 8K, model 8HDKAK. the issue is that I cannot start it from any start button without turning off the 35 Amp AC breaker on the unit first, then it will start. I then can set the breaker and it runs just fine. Has anyone had an issue like this? if so what was the fix?

Thanks as I am on the road for the next 3 weeks. Fun Fun

Harry thats pretty odd

are you connected to shore power when you do this? If so can you remove or close breaker on shore power and try again?


I am leaning towards a misbehaving breaker..of course I'm a guessing

But at least you have work around for your trip

Greg,

I am not connected to shore power when I try to start the generator. I have tried to start it from all 3 starting points and it does nothing. So I open the breaker and it will start. After it starts I can close the breaker and it works just fine. yea it is interesting to me also, just not sure if it is a breaker or not. Will check it out later as I am still on vacation and there are places to see and things to do.

Was thinking ...what if you shut off main breaker on house panel leave gen breaker on and see if you get the same?
