If there is a "tank stink" in any RV something is WRONG that needs FIXING.

I found the same situation with grey water smell . I use Happy Camper in my black and grey tanks. 3-4 times a year I find the following solution very helpful

When I have a short trip planned, I fill my grey tank with fresh water by just running the sink/shower to the point where the meter registers 100% . I add the happy camper. While driving the happy camper enzyme in the water catches on the roof of the grey tank and it starts to do its job. It eats away at the bacteria or whatever is causing that smell. it seems that the roof of the grey was where my smell was coming from not just from the water.

I keep that tank full as long as I can to let happy camper do its job. It has worked every time so I just do it routinely versus waiting for a smell to crop up. In 18 months have had no smells at all driving or sitting from black or grey
And no i'm not affiliated with this product

thanks randy. this will help.
i have been using happy campers, it's a good product. when the grey tank is empty, no smell; only when gets it higher the smell gets out. i'm still trying to find the root cause.

How high is "higher"? 1/4 full? 1/2 full? 3/4? Sounds like it could be possible that your vent pipe has slipped down... and when the tank begins to fill up, it blocks the outlet through the vent stack. Then the tank odors don't have any other escape route and could find their way into the RV.

And have you tried doing a soaking of the tank with either an extra-heavy dose of the everyday Happy Camper, or using the Happy Camper Extreme? That might help to remove any buildup on the walls of the tank that could be the root source of the odor.

I absolutely agree with you Mel... finding (and correcting) the root cause of a problem is always the best solution. But if you've gone down every imaginable path to stop/solve a problem and nothing has worked, sometimes the "gadgets and gizmos" can provide relief and make it more pleasurable to use your RV.

it starts at about 1/4. i am not sure how the vent pipe is being held. the T cap sits on the rooftop firmly. i could use a thin wire to measure where the bottom of the pipe is at.

i have the regular strength of the happy campers. i tried bleach, baking soda and the results were the same. i will check the pipe thing.

another unresolved mystery is where the second admittance valve in bathroom is at. i might cut the bottom of the sink cabinet just to see what are under there. the technician told me that newer cc's have an access opening under the carpet but mine does not have one. oh well, still digging...

Here is something that I had trouble with for a few months...
If you have replaced the bath faucet with something new and you replaced the trap assembly along with the faucet you may have the same problem as us...

The set we bought had a pop up assembly meant for a sink with an overflow hole you know that little hole at the top of the sink that prevents an too full sink from flowing over onto the floor. Since ours did not have this feature in the sink that left a place in the pop up assembly that allows mold, spit, and other sinky stuff to build up right there under the pop up. I force baking soda into these holes and follow with white vinegar to fix this problem and as soon as I find a gold pop up assembly with out the drain holes I am buying it...
