Ground fault with Shore and onboard AC/DC ckts

Hi All:

Recently acquired an Infinity 2002 that has some sort of ground fault issue between DC and AC grounds. If plugged into 220V, system chgs fine, if plugged into 120vac, the system trips breaker on shore or a GFI 120v 20A ckt.

Magnum says there must be continuity between DC and AC Circuit grounds and both should be isolated from each other. Okay, makes sense.

The Inv/Chg appears to be new, but will not accept 120V Shore power - even with the remote dialed in at 5A max input. Hummm.

If someone has had same experience, would like to know how to correct - only area I havent looked is the breaker panel to see if there are common grounds there that shouldnt be. Frustrating.

Thanks,

Are you plugging in a GFCI outlet for shore power connection ?
If so, that is your problem. Since the rv electric does not
separate the ground and neutral, the GFCI will trip often.

Ground fault

Yes, into GFIC. However, when plugged into std 120, without GFIC, it trips a 20a breaker. My older (fond memories) 1990 plugged into 120 GFIC worked fine of course it was a Xantrax, this one is a Magnum. Magnum tells me the grounds for AC / DC circuits must be isolated from each other - Lots of tracing and trouble shooting here.

Somewhat off topic but just read your post. My buddy has this problem whenever someone comes to visit him and he plugs their RV in to his 120v garage connection. Pops the circuit as soon as it's plugged in.

Love this forum...Thanks again for the post

GFI plugs are a non-starter for RVs......std 120v/20amp should be ok unless you have more than 20 amps load when you plug in [eg combination of inverter/charger, water heater, etc.]

Thinking this through the safety ground has to be connected to the DC ground. The Neutral should not be connected to the safety ground in the unit. Figure that out first.

The Neutral and ground are connected together (bonded) at the meter channel or power post depending on the installation. There should also be a ground rod at that point.

Plugging into a GFCI is a notorious problem. The simple answer is "don't". The longer answer is that there are devices that can have some leakage. The leakage is cumulative.
